Show t 4 4 t tEarl Earl W Bascom Former resident t receives Canadian honors The Board of Directors of the Canadian Rodeo Historical Association and the Cards Cardston ton Agricultural Society recently honored rodeo champion and former Vernal resident Earl Bascom for help help- helping helping ing pioneer the international sport of rodeo Some 61 60 years ago back in 1922 Bascom thought up designed and made rodeos rodeo's first hornless bronc riding sad sad- saddie saddie die The new saddle was first used at the Cards Cardston ton Alberta rodeo This basic design is still being used today in the sad sad- saddIe saddie dIe bronc riding events at all professional rodeos throughout the United States Canada Canada and Australia A native Utahn born in Vernal Earl Bascom was recently ma e an honorary citizen of Cardston Cards ton Alberta Canada led the town parade as Parade Marshall and was awarded a special silver buckle and saddle at the indoor rodeo byEarl This historic sad saddle ue was last used by Earl here in the Vernal area It was an excellent saddle for breaking in he explains I sold the saddle to my cousin Vic Bascom back in the It had a horn on it by then for ranch work No doubt its it's still kicking around some ranch in the Uintah Basin The National Cowboy Hall HaU of Fame the Canadian Rodeo Hall of Fame as well as the Hall of Champions all want this saddle if it can Earl Bascom is listed in Who in the West and lives on his ranch in Victorville Calif where he raises horses and pursues s his interest in creating western bronze sculptures |
