Maeser - The family of Lewis Elmer Lind announce an open house in honor of his 85th birthday to be held October 6 from 4 to 8 p.m. at his home, 1162 No. 3000 W. Maeser. Mr. Lind was born October 11, 1894 in Vernal (Naples), Utah to Lewis P. and Eliza Gray Lind. Lewis Lind came to Ashley Valley from Idaho with his brother-in-law, George Freestone, in 1879, bringing the first two hives of bees into the area. The Linds ran a small farm and yard of bees with the help of their ten children. Elmer attended schools in Naples, the old Uintah Stake Academy and also terms at BYU and Utah State. He married Lucy Goodrich May 31, 1917, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They lived in Naples for several years, farming and managing the Naples Store which they purchased. They later moved to Vernal where he worked in the Ashley Co-op. Then the Acorn Mercantile Store with a partner. In December of 1925 they sold the store and moved to a farm in Dry Fork Canyon where they developed a sheep ranch and also produced honey on the side. They raised four children, two others died at birth. Later Mr. Lind sold the Dry Fork Properties and moved down to Maeser where he enlarged his bee business with the help of his son, Rulon, developing the "Elmer Lind and Son" Honey Business into one of the largest bee operations in the state. They hold the copyright for a plastic, squeeze dinosaur in which they market the choice, whipped white honey which is very popular with tourists and local folks as well. It is marketed throughout the United States. Lucy Lind died in October, 1965. In 1966 Mr. Lind married Theo C. Morrison. Both are still actively engaged in packaging and marketing the honey and raising a few purebred sheep. Mr. Lind has always been active in Church and community, having served as the first Bishop of the Maeser Second Ward when it was organized June 3, 1951. He was also the first president and helped organize the original senior citizens group in Vernal. The children of Mr. Lind are: Mrs. Kenneth (Virginia) Taylor of Granger; Mrs. Allen (Mildred) Mansfield, Mrs. John Evan (Ruth) Jones, of Maeser; and Rulon Lind of Richfield. Also stepsons, Harley Morrison of Salt Lake and Grieg Morrison, Maeser. There are 19 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. grand-children. All family and friends are invited to attend the open house for Mr. Lind. |
