Eastern Star To Meet The Grand Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star of Utah has scheduled their 67th annual session for Wednesday, Oct.' 11th at 7:30 pjn. in the Salt Lake Masonic Temple. Mrs. Albert Gallagher, Midvale, worthy grand matron, and Cedar Gustin 0. Gooding, City, worthy grand patron will preside. Robert L. Clark, Stuart, Va., most worthy grand patron, will represent the General Grand OES Chapter. The Grand Chapter will formally be called to order Thursday at 9:30 ajn. Business session, luncheons and banquets are scheduled. Activities will conclude with a banquet Friday at 7:30 pjn. when new officers will be installed. Hostess chapters for the session and their worthy matrons and patrons are Mount Olympus Chapter, Mrs. T. R. Peeler and Tom W. Tucker Cedar Chapter, Cedar City, Mrs. E. F. Stark and Alvin F. Wright; Valley Chapter, Provo, Mr. and Mrs. Noel A. Harrelson. UTAH CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS SL Chapter of Phi Sigma Alpha celebrate Twelfth Anniversary The Salt Lake Chapter of Phi Sigma Alpha celebrated the Twelfth Anniversary of the organizations founding Sept. 14th, 1972, with a banquet at Beau Brummel Restaurant on 3 100 Highland Dr. Twelve years ago, the first chapter of die Sorority was formed in Corona, Calif. There are now 600 chapters and 7,500 members in the United States and Canada. In addition to the banquet, traditional ceremonies were observed. The history of the local chapter was reviewed, new members received their first welcome to membership, and founding members certificates were awarded. Roosevelt Miss Named Indian Queen A lovely Ute Indian, Glenna Ann Jenks, from Roosevelt, received the honor of Miss Indian at BYU recently. Miss Jenks is a freshman at the University. First runnerup was Claralynn West, a Navajo, from Arizona, while Ruth Ann Brown, a Hopi from Window Rock, Arizona, was named second runnerup. The contest was sponsored by the Many Feathers Tribe, an organization representing more than 550 BYU Indian students. Flowers, executive director for the society, said Mrs. Lois Moring, director of auxiliaries for the San Diego branch of the Childrens Home Society of California, has been in Salt Lake City to assist Utahs 88- - year- - old private child- - serving agency to launch its first auxiliary program. Threefold purpose of the support organization will be direct volunteer service, public relations and fund raising, Mrs. Flowers said. Flans are for auxiliary chapters to be formed throughout the state to. promote the service programs of the society. BPW OPENS FALL SEASON The Salt Lake City Business and Professional Women's Club will open the fall dub season with a meeting Thursday at 6:30 pjn. at Hotel Utah. President Rae Bateman will preside. Music will be furnished by The Mystiques. Reports will be given on the national BPW convention in July at Atlantic City and Girls State. |
