Show Gallery East prou the 1 995-9- 6 Stuck ScSeaoHJerernyWorthen55 art connoisseurs Chris Ashton's "viper" shows the flexibility of the "FreeHand" drawing program to a "T" After three quarters of tireless learning drawing painting and working the highlight of any CEU art student's year is the annual Student An Show This event which rounds out the college's exhibition at Gallery East for the I9V5-9- 6 school displays the talent and creativity of dozens of students involved in the various an courses CEU has to offer Not only do the students provide the art work for the show they also helped in arranging the pottery and hanging the pictures Three weeks ago a call for entries was given by the art faculty for pieces to be submitted to the student show Mote than a hundred pieces were then jurored and selected for display "Each year we seem to have strong areas" comments Jim Young an art teacher and director of Gallery East 'This year we had a great response in the computer graphics field which is producing some excellent work We also had some excellent photographs entered We had some good drawings and airbrush entries We probably had the strongest ceramics we have ever hud Raku firing produced some very strong pieces Our print area was well "Cans" a conte crayon drawing by Michael Clayton won one of the eight "Departmental Awards" represented in some strong intaglio and litho prints" A computer furnished by Jim New the instructor of the CEU graphic arts department provides a slide show of various Internet web pages created by three of the department's students “With the addition of the computer display this year it gives us a demonstration of how the graphic arts arc branching out on the Internet" said New At the official opening held on Monday May 20th at Gallery East awards were displayed In all 23 awards were given in the various mediums Three "Purchase Awards" were rewarded to Julie lligginson Wade G Larsen and Elizabeth Stanley Their artwork was purchased by the school for display on campus and as part of the college's permanent collection Two awards given by (he CEU Bookstore were given to Julie lligginson and Wendy Stingle They received a gift certificate to the bookstore Cash prizes of $30 were given as "Departmental Awards" to students forcxccllcncc in that respectivccoursc Awards wen: given to Chris Ashi Michael Clayton (2) Colccn Herzog Julie lligginson Anthi Petersen Gilmore Scott and Ama Turner "Merit Awards" of $23 were gi to students for their artwork as w Recipients of these awards were Cl Ashton Bryan Bernard Jclf liisl (2) Kwasi Osei (2) Gilmore Scull Elizabeth Stanley and Robert War Selected student work is open to public for sale If you are inicrcstci purchasing any of the work please Jim Young or contact any ol the teachers They will be happy to I you and the students will be more grateful “This year's student show ianol 1 example of (he good wink and student artists we have here CE Young continued "I have not nar specific students as many wereexi lent Come on into the show and for yourselves" The gallery hours arc X JO a m 11 pm Monday through I ’ri Ja Ever and Saturday showings can he anan M7-- 2 by contacting Gallery East ext 5297 J M i I A r m s wc "This year's student show is another example of the good work and fine student artists exi here at CEU" Jim Young continued “I have not named specific students as many were Come on Into the show and see for yourselves” (photos by Bryan Bernard) |
