Show A CELESTIAL TEIO charged with stealing ike whisky THEY ARE LODGED IX JAIL TO AWAIT THEIR TRIAL whisky wines and cigars found in their shanty for several months past mr ile fordonski formerly proprietor of the occidental saloon has had a chinaman by the name of george monge working for him his labors consisted of going to the saloon early in the morning cleaning it ont and waiting on any customer that might drop in before alie bartender ot around mr foremski had a large barrel of fine strawberry wine in liis wine cellar of none had been sold last week mr fordonski noticed the wine had greatly diminished and at once the almond eyed george mr fordonski naki at once went before justice W H brown and swore out a complaint against the chinaman and a search warrant was made ont and placed in the hands of police officer win strong early yesterday morning when chinaman george went to the saloon to do his customary morning duties policemen strong and chesley followed in liis tracks george done his work and left for his domicile a little shanty built on the arnth side of awards swards blacksmith shop where two other he athens were awaiting georges arrival the police followed him and were in the shanty almost as eoon as george on closing the door police officer strong palled from his pocket hie search warrant and made known his business one of the celestials celesti als seemed mad theother two scared they were told by the police that they would not be disturbed if the missing article was not fondd and that they need not be alarmed the search was then commenced in a nail keg was found a demijohn and a bottle of whisky on which was a label occidental ci saloon three trunks were then searched and seven boxes of cigars found aa a result the boxes had not been opened after looking around and finding nothing more the police gathered ap the spoils and marched george to the sheriffs office about noon yesterday sheriff fowler concluded that he would make another sarch so accompanied by police officer strong and mr ike fordonski and W M wilson he started for the shanty when they cot there policeman strong noticed that a pile of coal in the room had been disturbed since the first search the roof of the room looked rather suspicious also acting on a suggestion from mr fordonski policeman strong removed the boards that composed the ceiling and made a of the loft nothing but fragments of old iron shovel handles rotten spokes etc were visible in one corner was a heap of old horse collars and the wheel of a barrow among these the officer found a pillow slip in which was contained a demijohn full of liquor with a one gallon keg also containing spirits 1 I buesa weve got em this time said officer strong aa he dropped the spoils through the ceiling seeing the hidden goods discovered at once commenced to accuse each other of the charge sheriff fowler thought the best thing to do would be to march the celestial trio to the county jail where they were safely lodged the goods being stored away in the sheriffs office with many other similar articles at half this morning before justice brown ed yong of the celestial irio was arraigned on a charge of felony and plead not guilty the examination fillba held on friday |
