Show EXCELSIOR the for the patent roller process in Rc nning order last the excelsior boiler mills started in full blast with their naw machinery in complete working order the building itself has not been materially changed to admit of the ney ne y machinery but a grand transformation hag come ovar its interior to what it formerly was under the old time system of milling the new machinery was supplied by the great western manufacturing co of leavenworth Leiven worth kansas and was put into position by three of their men J creager jas A W wilson the former of these two gentlemen is the regular superintendent of th companas Comp anys work in the territories and has supervised the erection of roller mills in manti fountain green and spanish fork and goes to salt lake to put machinery in the pioneer milla there mr wilson is the regular salesman for the great western mf co last saturday afternoon the ENQUIRES man was conducted through the mills by hoover and mr J creager and had explained to him the patent roller process of making flour this new way is known as the hungarian process because hungary was the first country to introduce the manufacture of flour by means of the chilled iron rollers instead of the old time burrs the process would be better understood if termed a gradual reduction and the patent flour resulting from this process consists in the dressing it receives from a series of patent centrifugal wheels or flour which removes from the flour every particle of dirt and which people are in the habit of eakim by the ancient system That patent flour is as nutritious and more wholesome than the flour manufactured by the old way is palpable to the minds of any who lake a walk through the mills in the basement af are nineteen stands of elevators and an eureka scourer into which the wheat is first placed in order to be washed or scoured scon red this manufactured at silver creek naw york in the base meat also is situated the motive power ofine mills pulleys shaf tings etc all manipulated by a 35 inch epenial leffell wheel on the first or grinding floor ara the aeta of great western rollers one eureka milling separator and one barnard lees daisy flour packer here also are spouts through which the bran allour etc is conveyed the receiving of wheat and other general business of tha firm is transacted here on the next floor or bolt floor are two caso purifiers one great western aspirator and three smith dust col lectory there ia also a four wheel scalping chest and six centrifugal wheels here which do their boikin an interesting manner pleasing to the eye of the visitor in the attic are found the heads oi all elevators as also three more centrifugal wheels which dress the flour for tha last time in this room is situated a little machine which does its work in a quiet way but work which seems aston ashine the machine is called a horizontal bran duster and consists of a set of brushes and a fan contained in a very fine screen cylinder the cylinder encased in an outward box into this cylinder ia conveyed th abran which is cleaned of all flour by th set of brushes and is fanned through the screen cylinder cy lindar closely inspecting a handful of bran before going into this wonderful machine one would never think that it contained any flour it seems even to be frea of any dust but a elance inside the machine tells a different tale the capacity of the excelsior mills as they now stand is fifty barrels pel day iu othar words the malls can manufacture every twenty four hours nearly ten thousand pounds of flour the approximate cost of the new machinery reaches nearly making the capital stock of the excelsior mills now stand th work of putting in the new machinery comm eced the beginning of october and has been proceeded proceed ad with continually ever since that time the old machinery has all been removed with the ej eption of one burr in the basement but none of it has been cold yet the old of taking toll for grinding wheat baa been abolished by the excelsior mills and instead an exchange business has been adopted which will he more satisfactory to the farmer as he not only knows what he ia going to get but it wont take him fifteen minutes to secure his grist whereas previously ho could not tell how long he would have to wait for his flour the ENQUIRER wishes tha excelsior mills every success and hopes to see eventually more of thesa mills in the various |
