Arc you livingyour life to the fullest? Are you happy with who, what, or where you are today? Arc you doing what you love? Mostofus arc scarchingfor something, or sometime in the future when we will finally be happy. Hut we know from last wccksaltack that there arc no guarantees there will be a tomorrow. Life is precious and we must appreciate each day. Before thcattack, what brought many of us happiness were material things. Now we are seeing that fami ly, friends, and being our true selves is what life is all about. Before the attack, we may have known that we wanted to be happy, but we put ourselves on hold because there were responsibilities, bills to pay, and we knew we could work on being happy tomorrow. Now, we have learned that we may only have today. So, How Can You Be Happy Today? Follow These Easy Steps: Accept That Y ou Deserve To Be Happy: Being happy today is accepting that you deserve to be happy. I fyou do not think that this is true, then no wonder you are not. The messages you tell yourself determine which direction your life will take. Tell yourselfthat is ok to be happy, and that you will strive for die i n 90 days, would you do things di flercntly? Guess what? You arc going to die one day, and you do not know if you even have 90 days. Gratitude, not blame will bringyou happiness and freedom. Ask For I Ielp: Being happy today means not keeping your problems to yourself. Italso means that you ask for support whenyounecd it.andletothcrscontributetoyour life. Most of us do not ask for help because we do not want to burden the people around us. But, if someone asked you for assistance, wouldnt you lend ahclpinghand? Then why wouldyou not let others do the same for you? Do Something Nice For Someone Else: Being happy today is doing something nice for someone else. This could be as simple as holding the door for the person behind you, or as bigas volunteeringyour time to your favorite charity. Your problems become smaller when youarenotai ways thinkingabout them. When you take the focus off yourself, it is easier to see how great your life really is. Do Something That Will Move You Forward: Being happy today is taking steps that will move you forward. Movement keeps you from feeling like a victim. When you are unhappy, formulating a plan puts you in a different place and helps change your perspective. It also put the power back in your hands! How much more of your life do you want to live waiting for someday to have the It is up to you to create your own happiness. So, what is it going to take for you to be happy today? happiness each day. Accept Who You Are: Being happy today is accepting who you are, the good, the bad and the ugly. It is knowing that you are doing the best you can do, and being content with that. I am not saying to ignore what you would like to improve in your life, but ifyou only see what is missing, you lose out on loving what is great about you. Be Comfortable Where You Are: Being happy today means being comfortable where you are in the present, not where you would like to be in the future. It is aboi.it fcihg in awe for the opportunity to learn something new eachday. You do not know what your life will bring tomorrow, so enjoy where you arc happi-nessyoucrav- e? Dear Editor, The upcoming fall television season promises an even greater array of broadcast television obscenity, filth and blasphemy. Senator Joseph has asked are Lieberman there any boundaries? Its odd that this social Democrat should ask a question of that nature, since his compadres in the social Democratic party dont seem to feel they have boundaries on their conduct. The real impact on the television industry and on national morality will not come out of Congress. No, for the socialist Democratic party, for Hollyweird and its whackos, for the great seaweed eating environmentalists, for the femiNazis, for the gay lesbian movement, for the Marxist agenda adherents, there are no boundaries. Boundaries are set by an absolute set of moral standards, which ultimately must emanate from a belief in personal accountability to a Supreme Being. , On what basis do we establish boundaries for decency without an absolute point of reference? We cannot. That is why the socialist agenda that began with removing all reference to God from the school system, public buildings, and the major media, has removed the former boundaries that were rooted in the Christian heritage of this nation. Ifyou believe in boundaries, then you must, one by one, individual by individual, family by family, find your boundary lines and enforce them upon the public media. The first way to do it is to go purchase some worthwhile videos and turn the television OFF for the upcoming season. Youcuncompluinlo the sponsors and the networks. Even if you are not a person of faith, as many of nur forebears were not, you can do as they did, and that is to acknowledge that Bible principles produce a better, more controlled, far more decent society and more, obedient children. However it will take people of the true genuine faith to boundaries and take down the media's arrogance in fiilingtlie airwaves with sludge. This nation belongs to Americans, and its the Americans who must reestablish the buu ndaries and enforce them. Remember one thing; networks arc like any other business, they are in it for the money, and when the money dries up, they listen! To set the boundaries look up. To enforce them, follow the money trail. Dorothy Anne Seesc UR0C a For all Sens. Sincerely, Mrs. Mary Jane Page and the Neola fifth graders success thanks to local businesses, volunteers and others Dear Editor, We would like to thank ail who were involved in helping us stage the Utah Rockcrawling and Offroad Challenge,' "a.k.a. UROC. This years event was a bigsuccess, a lot offun and the spectators were treated to an awesome show. The competitors and UROC organizers were so impressed with the area and the people that they have already asked us to host their championship again next year, tentatively scheduled for Aug. 10, 2002. We have been getting feedback from the competitors that this is their favorite place to compete because they like the area, and the people are so friendly Keep in mind that we had competitors from as far away as Denver, Phoenix, Nevada, Wyoming, California. Washington and South Carolina, so this is a real shot in the arm for the Basin and all ofyou are to be commended for making them feel welcome. Our club. High Country 4 wheel Drive Association, puts nmr.'.hs if time and work into bringing these events to the Basin, and we couldnt do it without the tremendous supj-po-rt that we receive from the people and businesses of the Basin. Disagreements are fine, name calling is not Dear Editor, Dear Opprosition.I guess I can live with name calling1. Nazi. It's such an ugly name. It brings to mind hatred, violence and revulsion. Maybe Im still reeling from the terrorist attack on our country this last week by cowards. It was too horrible to understand. You see, I always thought it was all right for Mends and neighbors to disagree. I consider myself a very pratriotic person, and I married a very patriotic man. A man who went ofT to the Korean Conflict (the forgotten war). I watched two sons leave, one to the Gulf War, the other to stealth missions where we wouldn't hear from him for six months at a time. We are a pratriotic family. I was taught that our democracy gave the individual citizen the right to spreak. That if they sproke out lawfully, it was their privilege. We are not campaigning against preople; wearecampaigningagainstasystem. We honestly believe our county has grown and prospered and outgrown our present system. We sincerely believe the pro prosed county government would benefit us all. Even you, the opprosition. I guess I can live with name calling since I know in my heart the fine preople we have involved in our committee. Doris Goddard Pamphlet writers owe an apology Dear Editor, Our family felt shock, disgust and anger twice two weeks ago. The first time was when we saw the barbaric acts of terrorism committed in New York City and Washington, D.C. The second time was when we saw the pamphlet put out by unidentified individuals opprosed to a change in the form of Uintah County government. The pamphlet includes pictures of men from the county who died while serving our country in World War II and it insinuates that , ifsiillalive, they would be opprosed to any change. The pramphlet also compares those in favor of change to Nazis, implies that the Vernal Express has been taken over by Nazis, and claims that propronenls of change are out to destroy the freedom and liberty that Americans have fought and died for. It is difficult to find words to express how offensive this pamphlet is to us The intensity of our feelings Dimes about, in prart. because there is a proud tradition of military service in our family. question: How do you dare to servicemen, if alive today, would vote on a political issue where reasonable minds can have reasonable differences of opinion? How do you dare to name local citizens, suggest that they are Nazis, and write that they want to control our lives and our destiny? You dishonor the memory of the servicemen whose pictures are in your pamphlet'. Your claim that proponents of better county government put the issue on this Novembers ballot for sinister reasons is absurd. There is a great interest in this measure, and there will be, we predict, a very large voter turnout. We believe that you owe all citizens, not just theoneswhomyou have smeared, a public apology. We also encourage anyone receivingthe pamphlet to reflect on just how shocking and disgusting it is, then wad it up and throw it in the garbage can where it belongs. Wes Baden Dr. Laura Arnold Uninsured children eligible for health coverage Dear Editor, Each fall, families prepure their children for a successful school year. With the opening bell comes a year filled with new possibilities. Unfortunately, many students are at a disadvantage before they even enter the classroom. These children are uninsured. Without health care coverage, they most likely lack access to a personal and medical serdoctor, check-up- s vices that can keep them healthy. The facts are clear. When children have no health insurance, they cannot take full advantage of classroom time. According to the Center for Disease Control, children who have no health care coverage are less likely to receive medical care, prescription medicines or dental and vision screening. Research has shown that uninsured children are 25 more likely to miss school compared to their insured peers. Illness can lead to missed school days. Missed school days can lead to poor academic performance. Fortunately, many of Utah's uninsured children are eligible for low-coor free health care coverage, and could be covered iftheir parents enrolled them in the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) offered by the Utah Department of Health. Children enrolled in CHIP receive coverage for regular check-upprescription drugs, hospitalizations and immunizations, plusemergency care, mental health services, eye exams and dental services. Children who have health care coverage may still get sick or injured. But with CHIP coverage, prarents know they're able to take their kids to the doctor and give them the care they need to stay healthy. Health care coverage is one of the most important tools to give children as they head back to school. Parents who do not have health care coverage for their children should call to learn more about CHIP.
