Show o DEATH OF JAMES SPIKING. Tho death of young James Spiking, which occurred at Goldfleld last Saturday Sat-urday as a result of a boiler explosion, was a very sad thing. Mr. Spiking and Mr. Bales, associates in business, had, after much labor, perseverance and groat expense, just completed the erection of a mill for tho reduction of Goldfleld ores and had only a few days before tho explosion, put it in operation. opera-tion. Tho explosion, which occurred on Friday, was very disastrous, Inflicting In-flicting such injuries on both tho young men that they died tho next day. Jnmos Spiking was a Utah boy, born at Bouvor. 33 years ago. and Uvea most of his life in Salt Lake City and other parts of this state. 11. learned tho business of an nssayor. and for 11 yom-s was engaged in nssaytng and mlninc and had many warm friends, not only in Utah, but in most of tho western states. Ho was a steady, fcnvoit, Indus rlou and persevering voung man of a most cheerful and sunny disposition, and made warm friends wherever ho wont. Ho had been in Goldfleld for nearly a year, !,and was bno of tho loading citizens of that groat camp. IIo was a gon-oral gon-oral favorlto and enjoyed the confl-donco confl-donco and esteem of all classes, and universal sorrow is felt at his untimely un-timely death. Ho had overcome many difficulties nnd was just entering on a season of prosperity when ho foil a victim to tho grim reaper. Ho was tho only surviving son of his mother. Mrs. Georgo J. Brown, who, with Mr. Brown, wore in Goldfleld at tho time of tho nccldont. Ho was over a dutiful duti-ful son, nnd wns as much beloved by Mr. Brown as if ho had boon his own child. The bereaved parents and other relatives havo tho sincere sympathy sym-pathy of all their friends. Tho remains re-mains wore brought to Salt Lnko and laid away in tho family burying ground in Mount Olivet cemetery, whore he sleeps the sleep of the Just. God comfort tho stricken mother and fill her heart witli that peace which passoth all understanding. |
