Show HIAWATHA UP TO DATE. (With apologies to the poetic heirs of tho late Henry W. Longfellow. Truth vouches for the originality, but not tho meter.) In the land of fair Utah-na, Where dwells the festive Mormon, Dwells the Jew and Gentile also, In the land where Hows the Jordan, With its murky waters calling Flowing, running, calling to tho salty inland sea But, 'tis not of these I'm singing, Neither Mormon, Jew nor Gentile, Is the burden of my lay. I would think of things more pleasing Than mere men of common clay. Wake, my harp, then, In your fullness. As I chant the doings of the Hunter, Hunters bold and hunters many, But the Hunter that out-hunts them, Is the Bounty Hunter who out-skins 'em, From the days of mighty Nimrod. To the tlme3 of thunderous Cannon, Shooting broadsides from the Tribune. Tri-bune. From early morn to dewy eve And back again to breakfast Is this Bounty Hunter hunting For the skin of the coyote, For the hide of mountain Hon, For tho pelt of prowling wolfy. Then he hies him to tho County, Where the bounty-money waits him Walts the coming of the Hunter. Counts he now tho skins he's hunted, Counts not once, but often From beginning to tho ending, From the ending to beginning, Then once more he doth repeat them, Counts them many times and frequent Counts nnd counts the Bounty Hunter, Counts them o'er and o'er and o'er. Counts again and then some more. JOHNNY-ON-THE-SPOT o |
