Show I f THE Operating Funds Police Vest Purchase Okay Tremonton City council-me- n had a brief meeting Tuesday when nobody showed up to complain, ask for solutions to costly problems or anything else for that matter. The council agreed to set the mill levy at the same level last year as this year. It also learned that city employe Vernal Bronson will leave city employment for a higher paying job. It approved the purchase of two bulletproof vests for Tremonton City police men at a cost of $97 each. Police Chief Ron Ogborn said it would be mandatory for the night patrol policemen to wear the vests. He reported that a number of leads are still being traced in hopes of catching a sniper who took at least three shots at a Tremonton patrolman and then eluded author- ities. Ogborn said leads had been tracked down as far as Park City. He also noted that the Sec Percent In School District Up 10,3 ret Service has been in contact with his department a number of times. The Secret Service keeps close tabs on incidents in locations where the President of the United States might conceiv- ably visit. The city accepted a low bid of $28.78 for eachof eight tires for police vehicles from Phil and Lowell's Conoco. It agreed Total funds operating available in the Box Elder School District next year are expected to rise by $713,458 or 10.3 percent For the state as a whole, the increase in school operating funds will amount to $36.2 million, or 14.8 percent These were some of the facts reported by Utah Foundation, the private research organization, in their latest analysis of 1975 legislation affecting education in Utah. The study indicates that Box Elder School District is expected to receive $7, or 655,721 to allow J.D. Harris to keep the light poles and lights on the north park ball diamond in payment for his assistance in removing the lighting apparatus from the park. The city and the Kiwanis club, working jointly, plan to install new lights this summer using Bureau of Outdoor Recreation funds from a grant, and money provided by the Kiwanis and city. It also agreed to allow the Borgstrom chapter of Veterans of Foreign Wars to hold a "Forget-Me-No- t" promotion in late July. Foundation analysts observe that the level of basic school support for local schools was raised by 10.9 percent from $560 to $621 per weighted pupil unit Inflation was the major fee-t- or responsible for this The Foundation study also notes that legislation enacted this year will provide greatly expanded retirement benefits for public school and state employees. State aid to cover the local district's share of Social Security and state retirement costs for public school employees will rise by 26 percent to $37.3 million next year. Altogether, state funds for both local school and higher education operating costs will rise by $50.4 million in 1975-7- 6. As more women take jobs in business and the professions, they find it important to have adequate Insurance protection. Also, In families where there are young children, it can be valuable to have on the wife because of the high cost of insurance family care that would be incurred were she to die.
