| Show fire department com compares pares old new equipment the volunteer fire department of tooele thoele has a record to be proud of organized in march 1919 and growing steadily through the years all volunteer ce they have a case full of trophies testifying to I 1 ther the speed and efficiency as d do 0 also insurance rates locally there is a membership record through the years and now there are 35 active members under fire chief W bevan anderson and as distant chief T theo tate six members wear buttons showing 25 years of they are frank G eastman roy lee manon marion S lee judge L E kramer willard mclaws and edward evans evar people smile now at the old hand pump but in its day it d d good work it is possibly 50 years old or so and travelled to many fires accompanied by the hose car and 14 4 men to operate it in those days when they arrived at the scene of the fire the suction hose was ed straddle of a ditch the men started pumping and thus fought the fire the next piece of equipment was the ton truck the first motor equip ment no pump but hose a 1917 or 1918 model when that went to fires hydrants were around town to attach the hoses old members recall that more than once the weight of the hose plus the welpha weis hj of an extra fireman or two on the back of the truck pulled the front wheels in m the air but they accod good work in 1922 the seagrave truck was added and is still in service in continued on back page |
