Show TWIXT AND TWEEN with OREN PROBERT last week I 1 was named temper ary executive secretary of the too ele county chamber of commerce and since then I 1 have been con scantly on the go I 1 met with members of the salt lake city chamber of commerce and discussed organizing priced ures with gus backman clem schramm and wes hamilton they were very cooperative and their common thought was that too ele county definitely needs an or of this type and that they would duport it to the extent of the r limitations mr backman stated tooele thoele county has un limited possie cities for promoting industries developing natural re sources and should certainly take a position of pride in the state of uth the following day I 1 was present at a meeting in the state capitol building where commissioners from tooele thoele juab beaver and millard counties met with members of the tooele thoele county chamber of corn com merce and the state road corn com mission this meeting resulted in assurance that these counties would be linked together by a utah highway which would entice motorists to travel the route to the coast members of the local chamber of commerce who were present were 0 T barrus earl marshall ed gillespie and peter van otten state represent alive wayne clark of tooele thoele coun ty was also in attendance the next morning I 1 motored to wendover where I 1 was cordially received by the businessmen of that community 1 wendover has been subject to a lot of publicity in recent weeks as to the problems which they def finitely have but a large portion of that publicity has been a one man campaign against existing conditions which are unfavorable and the manner of approach is not necessarily sanctioned by the townspeople as a whole one thing I 1 admire about the wendover people is their sive spirit they are for improve ments that will better living con editions and make life in general a little more pleasant A majority of the business es in wendover have better fronts than do those in most communities they are properly maintained and give tourists a an n impression of good will and pros penty that impression is very im for Wea wendover dover is a gateway to utah one business in wendover that serves an unusually good mission tor for the townspeople is the wend over drug essential items of the more immediate household can be obtained there and I 1 honestly be lieve they have a better stock than most drug stores in larger cities the wendover drug also serves as Wea wendover dovers s only doctor I 1 am not singling out for special merit any more than I 1 would any other busi ness in the county but it is a very necessary establishment for better living and it plays its part well in ibapah I 1 found eagerness for a county chamber of commerce and wade calloway pledged his support mr caloway has recent ly built a new store and is playing a very active role in the better ment of conditions in ibapah oth er businessmen of deep creek val ley were on vacations and I 1 was unable to contact them but was i indirectly assured of their support in tooele thoele city and throughout the county at large the chamber of commerce has been accepted wholeheartedly and so far has re financial backing from every businessman with one exception that individual supported the cause mentally but couldn coulden t af afford ford to f and this lone reas on might well be a testimony that such an organization is inevitable if tooele thoele county is to survive in the passing of time for if business conditions are slumping now then we had better get busy before we all go on relief incidentally the office of the tooele thoele county cham chain ber of commerce is located in the tooele thoele city hall for information phone 1000 there has been a lot of idle talk about the new car in the sheriffs department some of it good some of it bad at any rate it has the possibilities of becoming a political issue beverly and I 1 attended the re cent concert given in salt lake city by the very famous hazel scott her original composition caribbean fete displayed an en viable touch of musical genius but her true personality wasn gasn t reflect ed until she lost herself in the non rhythms of her own boog ie le boogie classic boogie boogie or what ever the audience wanted miss scott with ease and perfection played and proved to be tops in her profession but after the glam our of the evening was gone there was one question to remain un answered where would miss scott spend the night in salt lake city because of racial tion miss scott who played so beautifully that five thousand peo pie rose to their feet and applaud ed for fully 2 minutes in ap precia tion of her musical talent wallace says A lot of people have asked about the story of my life well I 1 was born I 1 had my youthful fling now I 1 im in getting mighty old and very tired but I 1 still don t know whether I 1 in a democrat or a republican |
