Show field sta streak vernon B shields FISH an animal that grows fast est between the time it is caught ind the time a fisherman describes it to his friends OM ON THE PROVO fishermen using june bugs on the provo river last week returned home with some very excellent catches they would not have to stretch the truth in describing those big german browns to their fri fn ends my wife aren bird and myself took some nice big ones down there last week they would average two and a half pounds a piece the same day we ran on to merrill new man and ross staples newman had his limit in weight among them being a beautiful three and a half pound german brown I 1 also saw roy snyder and his I 1 fath ath er ernie snyder and as usual they had several big ones the browns did not seem to be lumping jumping for the june bugs as much as they usually do it did not seem to make much difference whether you sank them or floated them oren caught his by floating the bug and I 1 got mine by sinking it this week will mark the end of the june bug hatch on the lower provo we will have to wait another year now for another hatch of bugs CATCH FREAK FISH mr and mrs howard guinn re turned home from the provo the other day with a limit catch they had a rainbow and some german browns that would tip the scales at between 3 and a half and four pounds they had another rainbow 17 inches in length and its body was only about an inch and a half wide after examining it closely they found that it was totally blind in both eyes don dont t ask me how it was able to locate a baited hook a FINEST FISHING WATERS OPEN some of utah s finest fishing waters opened tuesday july I 1 these are the lakes and streams above feet the major area involved lies in the Ora drainage inage of the uintah mountains although the strawberry reservoir lies below the 7 foot level it also opened tuesday shag tate was there for the opening and reports that the fishing was terrible he said there were more fisherman on the reservoir than he had ever seen before and that no one was doing very well isaac walters and his brother jack reported excellent fishing on the blue lakes in the north uintah area their party all got their limits and some of the fish weighed as much as four pounds he reports the roads in very poor condition in fact they are almost impassable the forest service advises me that the road to mirror lake is in very poor condition and will re main the same for some time they reported the road crews had to buck heavy snow drifts in order to get the road open for the opening day it will probably be good fish ing in these areas but the going will be plenty rough LOCAL FISHING south willow creek received a big load of fish on thursday july 3 this stream has not been planted before that time because the water was high and roilly hoilly each of the other streams in the county will receive another planting during this month vernon creek is now really pro the fish mr frank randell reports that he got his limit out of there the other day and among them he had four that were be tween 17 and 18 inches long I 1 have had other favorable reports from the vernon area to date I 1 have not received any reports from creek it should be pretty good fishing there by now ROTARY GATE USED AT MERRY GO ROUND the other evening I 1 took a run down to the mill pond to see if any of the boys were taking any bass also ken huntington had a new casting rod he wanted to show me with the use of this rod he said he could throw a plug clear across the pond I 1 t see anyone with any bass nor did I 1 see huntington throw that plug clear across the pond but I 1 did see a boy about 14 and a girl about 13 using that new rotary gate the tooele thoele wild life federation built for a merry go round there were two other kids jumping up and down on the wire fence at each end of the gate the wild life federation went to a lot of trouble and work fixing this gate for the convenience of the public and also to help protect mr clarks clark s property the parents of these kids stood near by and paid absolutely no attention to this destruction of property it is no wonder that the sportsmen are confronted continually with no trespassing signs I 1 don dont t blame the farmers or the property owners I 1 made these kids get off the fence and gate and if I 1 knew the names of their parents I 1 would publish them |
