Show DEATH GALLS mw a STOCKS mrs mary alice stocks one of the earliest pioneers of moab valley passed away at her home friday morning at about nine clock following a protracted illness for the past year mrs stocks had been in falling health suffering from an infection of the stomach her condition was rendered the more serious as a result of shock caused by the accidental death of hr pon thomas L stocks several weeks ago since which time she sank rapidly mrs stocks was 62 years of age and I 1 had been a resident of moab almost continuously for 50 years she was one of highly respected and revered pioneer women and her death causes genuine mourning in hundreds of homes throughout eastern utah funeral services were held sunday afternoon from the L D S chap george A newell presiding the chapel was filled to its capacity by j sorrowing friends and relatives and there were many floral offerings the choir sang nearer dear savior to thee after which the opening prayer was offered by J H johnson a lifetime friend of mrs stocks was the first speaker and paid a glowing tribute to her record as a wife mother and aitken she had reared to maturity he said an honorable and family and to her would surely come a great reward mrs J meador and H W balsley sang a duet sweet hour of followed by an address by W R mcconkle he tailed of the certainty of a resurrection and offered comforting words to the family mrs stocks he said had devoted her life to her childrens welfare and they mav well cherish the memory of a mother who was noble in every respect of the word the choir sang kow gentle the lords commands followed by the benediction by L christensen at the cemetery the choir sang 1 I need thee every hour and the dedicatory prayer was offered by george A newell mrs stocks was bom aug 10 1868 at paradise cache county utah being the first white child bom there she came to moab with her parents the late mr and mrs leonadas L crapo moab pioneers in the year 1880 she married A M stocks and the couple made their home at moab continuously until their deaths mr stocks died some 15 years ago she Is survived by nine children who are mrs anna chamberlin salina utah mrs gallia branson mountain home idaho mrs kate lemmon mountain home idaho mrs ima irish moab mrs lilly ames gateway colo and james leonard arch and edwin stocks moab among the relatives from the outside who were in moab to attend the funeral were mr and mrs david chamberian salana mrs grace stocks and two children columbia mr and mrs hank snyder and daughters sadie and rowena dove creek colo mr and mrs fred ames and children gateway colo mrs james mccabe dove creek colo mr and mrs bulard F branson lewis colo mrs fanny aalboe myton utah mrs emma birch myton utah and mr and mrs sanford stocks roosevelt utah |
