Show State Health Report A case of anthrax was reported report-ed from Loa, Millard County. The patient is afarmer, 70 years of age. According to the attending attend-ing physician, the infection was contracted when the farmer skinned skin-ned a cow that had died of -the disease. ; . Anthrax is primarily a disease of animals and is usually secondarily second-arily contracted by man through animal contact. Human cases of the disease are rare in Utah. Only On-ly one case of human anthrax was reported during 1941. Scarlet fever has assumed epidemic epi-demic proportions in certain communities com-munities in the State. Mount Pleasant has reported 43 cases since January and February, 333 cases of scarlet fever were reported report-ed as compared with 66 cases for the same period in 1941. Parents are urged to keep all children with scarlet fever in bed as long as there is any evidence of sore throat or fever. Serious heart and kidnev complications mav result from even a light attack of this disease. Reports to the Utah State Department De-partment of Healh from local health officers for the week ending end-ing February 27, showed a total of 731 cases of communicable diseases dis-eases as compared with 672 cases for the previous week and 348 cases for the corresponding week one year ago. Increases are noted in the number num-ber of cases of chickenpox, influenza, influ-enza, measles, German measles, and pneumonia. No disease was reported from the following counties: Daggett, Emery, Morgan, and San Juan. Communicable diseases reported report-ed for the week were as followes: chickenpox 133, influenza 13, measles 111, German measles 102, mumps 344, pneumonia 14, scarlet scar-let fever 43, tuberculosis 6, whooping whoop-ing cough 19, gonorrhea 2, syphilis syph-ilis 6, septic sore throat .1, other tuberculoisis 1, and anthrax 1. |
