Show 16 SPRINGVILLE HERALD Thursday, September 13, 2007 Ethel May Aldred Ethel May Aldred passed away at the age of 93 on August 23, 2007. She was born on August 15, 1914 to Ellen Barrett Oare and Herbert Chappy Oare in Eureka, Utah, and grew up in Provo. She married Fred Aldred in 1935. She lived 60 years in their home at 58 E. 100 South in Springville. Ethel was an officer of the Fraternal Order of the Moose, a devoted volunteer volun-teer of heart charities and contributed many hours to various charities, including the Utah State Mental Hospital. Hos-pital. Ethel was preceded in death by her husband and one son, Robert. She is survived by two sons, Ed Thomas and David Aldred; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Center St. Provo 373-6827 Don Lee Wood Don Lee Wood, age 87, of Springville, Utah, passed away peacefully after a valiant two-year battle with cancer on Tuesday, Septl 1 1, 2007. He was born March 10, 1920 to George Lee Wood and Bertha Mae Steggell in Delta. Don married mar-ried Delia Witney Winnie on November 22, 1941 in Evanston, Wyoming. Their marriage was later solemnized solem-nized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on March 9, 1956. Don was inducted into the 756th Field Artillery Battalion and served two tours of duty in the Pacific Pa-cific Theatre. He was a High Priest and an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many positions. Don worked for 37 years as an electrician at Pacific States Cast Iron Pipe Company. He was one of the first members of Pacific States Credit Union and involved in its founding. Don was on the board of directors for many years. His advice was "stay out of debt; pay cash for what you buy; and always take care of each other." Don is survived by his loving wife, Delia; three children: Kathy (Joe) Ravsten of Clarkston, UT; Doug (Debbie) Wood of Payson, UT; and Kris (Kim) Anderson of Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove, UT; daughter-in-law, Glenda Kay Wood Hayden of Cerritos, CA; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He is V y' : . , Don Lee Wood, also survived by two brothers, broth-ers, Karl Wood and Bill (Bonnie) Wood; and two sisters, Betty Jane George and Ann (Don) Peay. He was preceded in death by his son, Raymond Wood; and siblings: June Jensen, Ruth Petersen, Norma Wood and Alyce (Teddy) Wood. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 15, at 11 a.m. in the Hobble Creek West Stake Center at 555 S, 600 East, Springville. There will be a viewing held at the church one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery. Born February 2, 1913 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to John David and Jane Pixton Bowers, Bow-ers, Mildred was the fourth of six childrea She pursued an education and graduated from Utah State Agricultural College with a bachelor's degree, earned her master's mas-ter's degree from Columbia Teacher's College in New York City and her received her PhD. in Foods and Nutrition Nutri-tion from Cornell University at Ithaca, New York. She married Albert S. Hunter in 1947 in Washington Washing-ton DC and their only child, Alice Jane, was born in 1952 while they both taught at Oregon State University. In 1957 they transferred to Pennsylvania State University Univer-sity at State College, Pennsylvania, Penn-sylvania, where they lived for the next 34 years. Upon retirement from Perm State, they lived in Santa Maria, Brazil, for four years where Al taught at the local university. univer-sity. As a faithful member of the LDS Church, Mildred served in many leadership capacities particularly with the Young Women and Relief Society auxiliaries. She was a humble example of kindness, gentleness-and compassion, and will be remembered re-membered for her goodness, her smile and her motto, "Be of Good Cheer!"
