BYU seems to be a life changer for her. This is where Coach Warner attended at-tended school, met the love of her life, and played on the basketball team. Warner had not planned on coaching in earlier years; originally she wished to do something in medicine or in the medical field. Specifically, Spe-cifically, she wished to go to nursing school at BYU, but being on the basketball team, she had little time to fit it in. She then went with health science as her major wanting to teach and coach in a high school. Luckily, she chose SHS. "It was a great opportunity opportu-nity for me," Coach Warner War-ner explains "I love the Lady Devils Continued from page 12 In the 50th minute, the Bruins took a hard drive to the far post that Sadie Clements Cle-ments dove for and blocked. The rebound fell at the feet of a following striker who tapped it in to draw one goal back, 2-1 Springville. Three minutes later Haylie Francis Fran-cis sent a long corner kick over everyone in the box. Vanessa Johnson was waiting wait-ing wide on the far side. She settled the ball and lofted it over the head of the keeper for an important insurance goal, 3-1 Springville. In the 72nd minute the Bruins took a corner kick. They sent a perfect ball into the space which was settled and driven into the far side to draw within one, 3-2 Springville. From there on out, it was nip and tuck with aggressive play and multiple chances by both sides. Finally Final-ly the whistle blew. It was a hard fought match that resulted re-sulted in a satisfying win for the second time over a fine Mountain View side. On Thursday, Sept. 6, the Ladies traveled to Tooele for the first time ever. Tooele has just entered the 4-A ranks and Region 7 so it is all new to everyone. Tooele's field is very eccentric. The grass seems to grow out of small graveL The north end tilts up and is crowned while the south end is level and flat. The ball bounced hard and unpredictably on that pitch. No matter. It didn't take long for the Devils to adapt. In the 7th minute Kay-lyn Kay-lyn Swanson took a ball from the midfield, carried it through the defense and chipped a looping shot over the keeper to draw first blood. 1-nil, Springville. In 4S w- I., girl's basketball Nancy Warner administration, the support, sup-port, and the feeling here at SHS. I am really excited and happy to be here!" When asked about the skills she will be looking for in the girls trying out for basketball this year, she immediately states "HARD WORK! They need "all out" toughness, offensively and defensively, continuously giving effort! Also, I'll look for a positive attitude and coachable mentality. I will be looking for girls who want to WIN, and nothing less." Coach Warner leaves us with her favorite quote from the famous basketball basket-ball player Michael Jordan. Jor-dan. "Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen!" the 38th minute, Betsy Cannon Can-non carried a ball up from her defensive position, shot hard into a defender, gathered gath-ered the rebound and shot it hard again into the net. 2-nil, Springville at the half . The second half belonged to Natalie Young. Young has been a prolific scorer this year with several 2-goal 2-goal matches. She was due for her own hat trick and it came in one 40- minute period. In the. 59th minute Young took a ball in the middle of the field, created space for herself and fired a low liner to the right corner, . 1 for Young, 3 for the Devils. In the 75th minute Swanson took a shot from the right side which Young redirected with her head into the upper left corner. 2 for Young, 4 for the Devils. In the 79th minute, the ball was in close to the goal Kimberly Stratford and Young were both sizing it up for a shot. Young got her foot on it first and pounded it into the cross bar, over ; the keeper and over the line for her final goal of the day. ; 3 for Young, 5 for the Devils. Young was due and it was fun to see her cash in. Final score, 54iil Springville. While the Red Devils were winning both their matches, Orem and Provo were tussling tus-sling it out on their own. Orem and Provo played to a draw on Tuesday which pulled the Devils to within one point of the Tigers and two points ahead of the Bulldogs. Bull-dogs. On Thursday, Orem beat Payson, but Mountain View defeated Provo, leaving leav-ing them five points behind Springville on the table. Orem's stumble leaves them within striking distance. The Devils' destiny is in their own hands. 1 ix 1 r Iwiw.aiinn'iliun.rn-i i i-nrm-iir -r-tt " & t ' ? i,. IK" ' : J t . - ', " , -v.. 4 - v "v ' ' '-; 2..
