Stronger Than a Spartan Spar-tan is being organized by the Family Readiness Group, a group of the families and loved ones of the 116th Security Forces Company. Currently, 165 SECFOR troops are serving serv-ing in Iraq on an all-volunteer mission. From Sept. 11 to Nov. 11 (Veterans Day), the Family Readiness Group, a volunteer organization, will be gathering items and collecting donations that will be used to pro duce and ship an individual individu-al Christmas care package to each of the deployed troops from SECFOR as well as the more than 700 other members of the Utah National Guard currently deployed in the Middle East. Mesa Systems Inc. of Salt Lake City has generously gener-ously donated warehouse space for the storage of these items and the assembly assem-bly of the care packages, which will take place in November. Mesa Systems Sys-tems will also be assisting in the gathering of items by donating their Store and Move portable storage stor-age containers as dropoff drop-off points throughout the state. Items are being gathered gath-ered in the following three categories: personalhygiene, personalhy-giene, 2) ediblegoodies and 3) entertainment. For those who wish to donate items, a drop-off location will be operating at the Springville Wal-Mart Wal-Mart on Saturday, Sept. 15. Also, items may be dropped off at the Spanish Fork Armory on an ongoing ongo-ing basis Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Suggested items to donate do-nate include: candygood ies, individual serving-size chips or cookies, jerky, sunflower seeds; foot powder, pow-der, chap stick; seat cushions; cush-ions; backmuscle comfort items; twin sheetspillow cases; handheld fans; paperback books, magazines; mag-azines; CDs, DVDs; board games, handheld andor electronic games; playing cards; wordnumber puzzle puz-zle books; phone cards; iTunes gift cards; writing supplies; etc. . Small toys for the soldiers sol-diers to hand out to the Iraqi children and Christmas Christ-mas wrapping paper for the boxes are also needed, as are cash donations. The group is also seeking seek-ing local schools who will have their students write letters and cards to send to the troops. Most companies join forces to give themselves an advantage.
