Newman Funeral services were conducted con-ducted Wednesday afternoon in the Second-Eighth Ward Chapel, for Robert Howell Newman, 79, retired steel worker, who died Monday, August Au-gust 29, at Eldred Hospital of a long illness. Bishop Ray Cope, of the Eighth Ward was in charge of the services. Burial Bur-ial was in the East Lawn Memorial Cemetery, Provo, directed di-rected by Wheeler Mortuary. Mr. Newman was born Feb. 8, 1887, in Holladay, a son of Thomas S. and Caroline M. Wayman Newman. He married Irene E. Clark, Feb. 21, 1917, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Mr. Newman was a high priest in the LDS Church, and was assistant secretary for his priesthood quorum. He was also a home teacher. He was employed at the Ironton plant of U. S. Steel for 29 years, retiring in 1952. His hobbies were flowers, fishing, and rock hunting. Surviving are his widow of Springville; nine sons and daughters: R. Gerald Newman, Anchorgae, Alaska; Mrs. Ted (Elizabeth) Rowland, Norwalk, Calif.; Mrs. Alton (Margaret) Woods, Longdale, Calif.; Mrs. Max (Hazel) Gordon, Spanish Fork; T. Newman, New-man, Providence, Utah; Mrs. Charles (Ethel) Gottfredson and William A. Newman, Hawthorne, Haw-thorne, Calif.; 51 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; two brothers and three sisters: Albert J. Newman, Jay C. Newman Sr., and Mrs. Elizabeth Eliza-beth Hutchinson of Holladay, Utah; Mrs. Margaret Wells of Salt Lake City; and Mrs. Parley Par-ley (Ethel) Eccles of Phoenix, Arizona. |
