Show Services Held On Wednesday For Aunt Maitie Hoakes Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Mar-tha Harrison Noakes, 91, a native pioneer and oriof the oldest residents resi-dents in this city, were conducted Wednesday afternoon in the Third-Ninth Third-Ninth ward chapel, under direction direc-tion of Bishop Wilford W. Clyde of the Ninth ward. Burial was in the Provo city cemetery. Mrs. Noakes, known by her many friends as "Aunt Mattie," died Sunday at a Provo hospital of ailments incident to age. She was born in Springville, February 9. 1858, a daughter of early settlers Wm. and Hannah Ellis Harrison. Mrs. Noakes was educated in the Springville schools and studied dramatic art in California. She took an active part in early-day dramatics in Springville. She served several years as president of the Primary Association during her earlier life. In 1876 she was married to William Wil-liam Huntington, and received her endowments in the old Salt Lake Endowment House. Mr. Huntington Hunting-ton died in 1896. and in 1897 she was married to George Noakes. He died in 1925. Mrs. Noakes was a sister of the late George ("Beefsteak") Harrison, Harri-son, early-day hotel man of Springville. Her survivors included one stepdaughter, step-daughter, Mrs. Elfie Huntington Bagley; also a granddaughter. Mrs. Delia (Dot) Mensen. of Salt Lake City; a great grandson, Joseph Jo-seph Jensen, Logan. |
