Show e OWEN BARLOW DIES OF WOUND FROMGUNSHOT Owen Barlow, 13, Springville Boy, Fatally Wounded As Rifle Unexpectedly Discharged Dis-charged on Hunting Trip Funeral services for Owen Harry Barlow, 13, victim of an accidental gunshot wound, will be held in the Springville Fourth ward chapel this afternoon at 2 o'clock, with Bishop H. A. Robertson, in charge. The child died Monday from the acidental discharge of a .22 calli-ber calli-ber rifle while he and his companion, com-panion, Preston Hooper, were hunting hunt-ing in the foothills east of this city. According to the story told by Hooper, the boys were crossing through the orchard of K. O. Best when they came upon a fence with woven wire netting at the bottom and barbed wire at the top. Barlow lifted his gun, which was loaded, over the fence, allowing it to lean against the wires while he crawled through. In some manner, the wire caught under the trigger discharging discharg-ing the gun while Barlow was di-rectlv di-rectlv above the muzzle. With a cry of pain the boy fell off the fence proceeding about 100 - yards before ha fell to the ground. Young Hooper ran for help. A neighbor, E. A. Best heard the report re-port of the gun and hurried to render aid. Best immediately rushed Owen to the office of Dr. George Anderson. He died a few minutes after without regaining re-gaining consciousness. Examination Examina-tion disclosed that the bullet entered en-tered his body directly above the heart. The boy was the son of Harry and Eva Beardall Barlow, who survive him in addition to a sister, Lena. He was born in Springville June 21, 1915. |
