Show REDDEVlLS PUT UP GREAT FIGHT AGAINST PROVO By FKXFST It. RASMUSON 1 In a typical pre-scason football game replete with tumbles and loose playing the Provo Bulldogs scored a 6-0 victory over the fighting Springville Red Devils Friday afternoon after-noon on the Springville campus. The teams were evenly matched, with little ground gained from scrimmage by either side. Provo scored in the second quarter on two 20-yard forward passes, and a beautiful beau-tiful piece of broken field running by Floyd Biddulph from the 17-yard line for the only touchdown of the game. His try for extra point was wide. Two Springville Chances Springville had two excellent chances to score but the Bulldog forward wall made a desperate stand in both instances and the ball was lost on the fourth down just outside the 10-yard line. The Red Devils battled heroically against the touted Bulldog line playing play-ing the veterans to a standstill in the seconH half when the Springville Spring-ville backfild star, Childs, aided by effective interference, succeeded in making two successive first downs on cut-back runs through the Provo line. With the exception of the two successful suc-cessful forward passes from Robi-son Robi-son to Giles and Biddulph to Giles and Bidd'.ilph's spectacular run in the second quarter, the contest was devoid of thrills. Both teams resorted re-sorted to punting on the first or second down and few plays were used by the teams. ine oprmsviiiw iaa v.-- momentarily cheered early in the fourth quarter when the game took a sudden turn that looked like a touchdown for the Red Devils. Robison's punt was blocked and the ball recovered on the 9-yard line by a Springville man. Springville was I declared offside and the ball brought back with an added 5-yard penalty Bulldog Line olds Springville made another bid late in the last quarter when Spafford recovered Giles' fumble on Provo's 12-yard line. Two short passes from Thorne to- Paxman gained a few j yards but the Provo line braced and the ball went out on the 8-yard line : iust two minutes before the end of Ihe game. On defense the two teams ap-1 peared evenly matched with the j supposedly green Springville line showing up to advantage. The work of Childs, plunging fullback for Springville, was outstanding for his team. Paxman and Thorne also played well. - Floyd Biddulph displayed the most finished work for the Bulldogs, Bull-dogs, making several nice returns of punts, while he was in the game.. His brother Clyde, who replaced j him in. the second quarter, played , well despite the usual nervousness of an early game. Good Passing Combination While few plays were sprung by i Provo the forward passing combina-1 tion of Biddulph, Giles. Robison and ! Eggertsen looks promising for the coming season. The punting of Robison for Provo and Childs for Springville was exceptional, both of them getting close to 50 yards on most of their boots. Lineup and summary: Provo Springvillo Robison RFJ.. . .
