" M Mrs. Elzina Strangham Henrie Celebrates 91st Birthday Friday Mrs. Elzina Strangnam Henrie, one of Utak's oldest pioneers, will pelebrate her 91st birthday Eriday, at the home of, a daughter, Mrs. O. D. LeeMasler, ' 128 So. Main, with whom she is making her home for the winter. One of the first seven families to settle in Ferron, Utah, Mrs. Henrie and her husband Daniel Henrie, pioneered that part of the state living for nine years at LaSal, San Jaun county and the remainder of the time at Ferron. Mr. Henrie died 21 years ago. The couple lived with his brother in a one-room log cabin when they were first married mar-ried and throughout early settlement days experienced many Indian troubles. Mrs. Henrie served as a Primary teacher, as a counsellor coun-sellor in Relief Society and as a Relief Society teacher during dur-ing her early life. Her husband stood guard during the Black Hawk Indian war and he served as an escort to Brig-ham Brig-ham Young when he traveled at one time from Manti to Gunnison because of Ind ian troubles. This Utah pioneer remembers many interesting early day experiences. When they first settled in Ferron the wind blew so hard that they could not hang clothes to dry on the line, Mrs. Henrie said. She recalls when they built a bowery to celebrate the Fourth of July and her husband was dressed in his best attire' including a red flannel undershirt under-shirt to sing on the program. Mrs. Henrie is the mother of 10 sons and daughters with seven living. She has 35 grandchildren; 69 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren, making her the oldest of five generations. Her sons and daughters in addition to Mrs. LeeMaster are: Mrs. Mae Trancell of Manti; Mrs. Lila Bohleen, Herbert Henrie, Mrs. Ada Som-erville Som-erville of Ferron; Mrs. Ina Kelly of Costa Meca, Calif.; Le Grande Henrie of Sheridan, Wyo. |
