Spanish Fork High School's Isaac Asiata has committed to play for the University of Utah. The 6' 4 1/2" 295 lb. junior is the son of Leitu and Risata Asiata and started every game at right tackle for the Dons this past season. Next year he'll be moving to left tackle, defending the QB's blind side. Asiata was recruited by many schools impressed with his size and prowess on the field, including BYU, UCLA, Florida and national champion Alabama. He decided on Utah for a number of reasons. "I've always wanted to play there since I was a little kid," he said. Staying in state and being close to family is another plus. And, Asiata said, "I love being up there — it's a great environment." Isaac Asiata Asiata said he's had people asking him if he'll be another of Utah's infamous de-commits. He said he has "no doubt" that he'll be suiting up in crimson come fall 2011. "Utah is my family now," he said. "I won't turn my back on my family." Other Spanish Fork recruits committing to schools include tight end Jordunn Mattinson, who will play for Utah State University, as reported earlier in The Sentinel. Ashlee and Kelsey finished at the same time, 2:44:14. The girls spent three months training for the race, and they felt good about their performance. Doing a half marathon had always been a goal for them, but the real motivation to compete in St. George came from some friends telling them they'd never be able to do it. Now they're training to run the Bryce Canyon Half Marathon, with the eventual goal of running a marathon in Hawaii.
