Many thoughts and prayers had been offered in his behalf during his absence and now, all were overjoyed to see him home safely. Two especially poignant moments were noted. One was when he was greeted by Jim Moon, who had served in Afghanistan himself a few years ago and the other, when Walt Stewart, a World War II air force hero, embraced him. Stone's assignment in Afghanistan had been to help train the Afghan military to strengthen their forces. "Our mission was good. We made great progress with the Afghan soldiers." He then went on to say emphatically, "Our mission was good. We made progress with the Afghan soldiers." — Steve Stone "It's good to be home." His unit suffered one loss during its deployment and that was 2nd Lt. Scott Lundell whose parents, Norman and Margaret Blanchard Lundell, both grew up in Benjamin. Lundell is buried in the Benjamin Cemetery and his name, as well as his father's, is on the special memorial at the cemetery. The feeling of patriotism was rampant in Benjamin as made evident by the abundance of our greatest symbol, the flags fluttering in every direction and the feeling of pure joy at having Stone home again. We thank him, his wife, Nancy, and their family for their sacrifice and their willingness to have him serve us and our country and to work to defend our freedom.
