Benjamin sends their thanks Kathleen Olsen STAFF WRITER Mary Beckstrom Jensen was in possession of a large number of pictures and stories of early Benjamin, and from these items came her dream to publish a history of Benjamin. She increased her collection and started to put this dream together but found she lacked the up-to-date expertise to print and publish such a big task. She was in the process of searching for help when a nephew-in-Iaw, Dick Wiseman, came to Payson and to her rescue. Dick and his wife, Kaye, moved to Payson from their home in Arizona, to help with Kaye's elderly parents. He was well equipped to take on such a project and Mary gratefully turned the work of putting the book together to him. At the outset, Dick thought it would be a thirty to forty page project. Instead, it turned to a undertaking and has gone through two printings. The book is full, of information gathered together that is proving invaluable to anyone with a interest in or heritage of Benjamin. Already it has supplied family history data that some who had been searching have Festival of Light found in the book. Dick took it upon himself to search out information that was lacking in Mary's collection. He visited Benjamin many times, taking pictures and interviewing citizens, all of which he added to the book. He organized the material and put it together in a highly enjoyable format and it has proven to be a hard book to put down because of the valuable contents in it Dick was born in Ohio and has lived in many places in the world during his lifetime. He spent 26 years in the military; worked for a time for Sperry, and then returned to work for the federal government. He and Kaye were married in 1977, and they have two daughters and five grandchildren. Dick and Kaye are now making plans to return to Phoenix, taking Kaye's mother with them. (Her father passed away a few years ago.) Mary wishes to publicly thank Dick for his wonderful work and effort in bringing her dream to reality. Indeed, those in Benjamin thank Mary for her dream and persistence and Dick for his work and dedication in bringing "The Faces and Places of Benjamin" to any who have the opportunity to own and/or read this special book.
