Show * enttnel B8 • WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 2010 ALA holds geography bee ALA 8th grader, Kylie Pearson, placed 1st in the school's geography bee for the 2nd year in a row. Kylie who says that her favorite part of preparing and participating in the geography bee is "knowing where places are in the world and never being confused or lost in history class" will compete in the state competition on April 9th. Kylie hopes to advance to the final round at the state competition this year and says that she plans to "study non-stop" subjects such as current events, world leaders, Guardian of Your Community News ALA Speech and Debate Kylie Pearson landmarks and anything else related to geography! Courtesy photo DEBATABLE: Congratulations to the ALA Speech and Debate Team for winning four awards at the Warrior Wars Tournament at Taylorsville High School on Friday and Saturday Jan. 22-23, 2010. Bethany Millet won a 3rd place trophy in Novice Humorous Interpretation, Jared Howe won a 5th place medal in Varsity Congress, Rebecca Davis won a 5th place medal in Novice Congress, and Kayana Morgan won a 6th place medal in Novice Congress. Close to 35 schools from 1-A through 5-A divisions attended this tournament. All 23 team members will travel to Regional Competition on Wednesday, Feb. 10, at Park City High School. These six "students all have a 4.0 GPA, high ACT score and have contributed greatly to their American Leadership Academy held their science fair on Thursday, January 28. Students in grades 5-12 competed for the chance to attend the district fair on Feb. 25, 2010 from 4-9 p.m. where students will have the opportunity to go up against students from other charter schools around the state. Salem SUPERSTARS: Students at Salem Elementary have taken on the challenge of being and doing something more than expected. They have set their sights to become Super Stars. The goals include everything from academics, social and personal growth. Students, par- ; ents and teachers work ' together to help students reach their goals.
