HOPE SQUAD: In January the Spanish Fork High School Hope Squad visited the Spanish Fork Junior High, and Diamond Fork Junior High. They went to health classes to talk about self esteem. They were trying to tell the students to be nice to each other and to build up each other's self esteem, not to tear it down. Candace Wride, a Hope Squad member, said, "The students were excited to see us because we bring candy to share with them. It was an overall good experience for everyone." By Emily Barrington. Spanish Fork High School has seen a lot of changes these last few years, most of them happening as this year's seniors have gone through its halls. Changes include Salem splitting off in the 2008 school year, and Maple Mountain splitting off this year. The school has also had a total makeover on the outside, but what's better are the things that have changed within the school. This year, SFHS is stepping up to the plate of looking to the future with new technology. Many have thought that the school was behind when it came to the newest achievements in helping teach with the aid of electronics and new gadgets. Not anymore. New projectors have been installed in every room, helping teachers show notes and videos on a large screen. Another addition are the sound systems that teachers use to magnify their voices in the classroom using microphones that hang around their necks. The final change, and one that many teachers agree is the most challenging to get used to, is called the Starboard. The purpose of this device is to allow teachers to write on a board, also known as a tablet, with an electronic stylus that the tablet and software turn into writing on the screen, which is displayed on the projector; this allows teachers to add notes, make corrections to things and sometimes even get a few laughs out of the students while both older and younger teachers start to get used to writing on it. Gym Moore speaks to LHS: From MOORE • B l 72 N. Main Spanish Fork 798-3587 SPORTS getting in a constant loop of self doubt, frustration and anger. The hard way is staying home, studying, practicing and focflteing on what you want that will lead to good things and a brighter future. A good way to not be on the constant loop of the destructive path is thinking of the positive things that happened that day; think of what you did right and how you can do it better tomorrow. The big trick is that if you want to get out of that path and make something of yourself in this world, then you have to put your whole life and power in wanting it. Moore also talked about tearing off labels by not believing the negative things that people say and that you yourself think. You can either live by what they say or tear off the labels, become something better. Another thing that he talked about was peer pressure and how if you have friends that hurt themselves, you will be dragged down and wouldn't be able to succeed. You need friends, family, and others that help you to get out and succeed. * |
