For their first year as a program, the Golden Eagles had two swimmers qualify for state: Merika Olsen and Alicia Pulido. The Dons had a much larger contingency, which included Bonny Dowling, Brady Beckstead, Chet Oxborrow, Cooper Urmston, Dallin Parkinson, Dezlee Roberts, Fausto Guerrero, Heidi Christensen, Holly Christensen, Jesse RobMike Olsen / The Sentinel erts, Kaley Thomas, Kaylee Wride, Marree Gra- REPRESENTING: Alicia Pulido, above, and Merika Olsen, below, represented MMHS. ham, Max Turner, Rebecca Greene, Tanner Greenwood and Todd Griffiths. Swimmers on both teams were dropping time and some had substantially improved their placement by the meet's end. The Dons had two swimmers receive the Academic All-state award for their achievements both in the classroom and the water. The cumulative GPA for both groups was 3.99. Rebecca Greene and Dallin Parkinson both received this honor. Additionally, Bonny Dowling was recognized as the female swimmer of the year for the 4A high school swimmers. Once again,ahuge thanks to the coaching staffs and all those who worked hard behind the scenes to make these programs as successful as they were. Obviously the biggest thanks goes to the swimmers and their long hours of practice and dedication. What a great way to finish the season! Namon Bills / The Sentinel EXTRA MILES: Maple Mountain's Spencer Hanson competed in the mile and two-mile events. Indoor track at Kearns Oval Dave Boyack STAFF WRITER The Utah High Track Coaches Association hosted the final indoor meet of the season this past weekend at the Utah Olympic Oval in Kearns. Athletes from Maple Mountain and Salem Hills high schools traveled north to compete against the besTt athletes in all classifications from •"around the stated*3****1'1 In girls action, Salem Hills' Jo Julian place first overall in the long jump with an outstanding leap of 16'5". Teammate Siale Viahoti jumped 4'10" to place third in the high jump. Lady Eagle Dani Esplin showed she will be a sprint force as she placed fifth in the girls 60m dash. The Eagle foursome of Kelsi Bird, Kelsie Hadlock, Lindsey Schuring and Challice Jones placed fifth in the 4x800m relay. On the boys' side, Skyhawk Jason Anderson ran his best time of the season in the 400m at 52.99 placing ninth. Eagle Jeff Brammer was right behind in 10th. Brammer teamed up with Jordan Cuthbert, Cameron Carson and Aundrae Giles to place a close second in the 4x200m relay. Their time of 1:33.43. was close to an Oval meet record. The Golden Eagle 4x400m team of Brammer, Cuthbert, Brent Strong and Kevin Muirbrook place second, just a second be-^ hind the Skyline team; The 4x800m relaf *fHH< of Zach Fraser, Holderi Adams, Kevin^uiffrrttfk and Jonah Hadlock ran well, placing sixth overn all. Distance ace Spencer Hanson ran his specialties^ the mile and two-mile. His| times of 4:31 and 9:48; were both season and all-! time personal bests. Spen-j cer's two-mile effort place him fourth overall. High jumper Parker Cress-man placed second with a 6'4" leap. Jordan Cuth-j bert placed fourth in thej 60m hurdles with a time! of 8.84. Sectionals: Wrestlers qualify for state Kari Malkovich STAFF W R I T E H Twenty-four boys from local high schools qualified to compete in the Utah State Wrestling Tournament this week at Utah Valley University. The boys, from Maple Mountain, Salem Hills and Spanish Fork traveled over the weekend to Uintah to compete in the state-qualifying sectionals. Maple Mountain placed third as a team at this southern divisional tournament. "I thought we wrestled well this past weekend," said MMHS Coach Justin Judkins.
