Courtesy photo 4-H DONATES: Part of the afterschool 4-H program at Spanish Fork Junior High includes participating in a service project each term. The service project for term three was held on Friday, March 27. Club members made fleece pillows and filled gift bags for local children. The bags included a fleece pillow, crayons, an activity book, wrist band, pencil and some treats. These bags were then donated to our local fire and police departments. An officer from the department came out to collect the bags from the students. Topping off this rewarding service project was a big banana split party for the students who worked so hard. A great time was had by all, and the bags should bring big smiles to the recipients. East Meadows Hansen Heroes named Brockbank Elementary is happy to announce their Hansen Heroes for the month of March. Ramsey Anderson is in Marcy Noorda's firstgrade class. Students have been earning currency to spend at the market during the past month, and received it for good behavior and work completed. Each student made a poster to advertise their product or service, and then brought the products or services of their choice to sell at the market. Face painting, games, candy, drinks, jewelry, and even a few surprises were all available for anyone with the required currency. Students were able to experience budgeting their money, and bargain shopping. Big sellers this year were (live!) goldfish, sodas and nail painting. Students were able to reap the rewards of all of their hard work. Courtesy photo WATER MANAGEMENT: Recently the sixth-graders from Brockbank Elementary took a field trip to the Provo Waste Water Management Plant. This trip went along with their science curriculum about microorganisms. Each class was given a tour of the plant to see the process in which waste water is purified. Students learned how good microorganisms help remove bad microorganisms and clean water. After the tours, the sixth graders went to BYU's planetarium and learned about the sun, the planets, constellations and how astronomers conduct their research. Pictured learning about how water is purified are sixth-grade students Jared Nelson and Dalton Sorensen. |
