This newspaper, The Sugar House Chamber of Commerce, several area service clubs, local businssmen unaffiliated with them, and ln-numberable ln-numberable citizens have gone on record as favoring the name SUGAR ROUSE PARK for the developed old prison site. The name poll which produced bushel baskets full of suggestions was turned over to the joint city and county commissioners. It revealed re-vealed that the choice of the people was SUGAR HOUSE PARK. Weeks have gone by. The commissioners have been pressed to bring the matter to a conclusion. They have said that the. original committee would be reformed into a permanent Park Development which would then select the name. ' All of us realize that this takes time especially so when In the hands of a political group. But now comes the word that a meeting was called for the commissioners com-missioners to take action. Some of the commissioners were not able to attend so no definite conclusions were reached. """it is authoritatively reported, however, that it was suggested that the commissioners go ahead and name the park and if the people didn't like it they could change the name later. Now what kind of political pass-the-buckism is this? There is no question of a doubt as to what the people want. There is no question of a doubt as to what the area service clubs want. There is no question of a doubt as to what the Sugar House Chamber of Commerce wants. There is no question of a doubt as to what this newspaper wants. Whv not? " " Just exactly who is pulling for another name? What is it? Why sTTould the wishes of everybody else be set aside for what is now a "phantom" so powerful that it or they can swing the will of a group of commissioners who have received the choice of the "people"?
