This commit-tee was composed of the follow-ing members: Dr. A. Walton Roth, field representative for Utah and Idaho; Dr. Donald G. Christian-sen, Pastor of the Wasatch Pres-byterian Church and chairman of the National Missions Committee; Dr. Alvin L. Morris, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Salt Lake City and moderator of the Presbytery of Utah and the Rev-erend D. Glen Cordell, trustee of of the organizing committee. Assisting the committee at the services were the Reverend Geo. Hirose, pastor of the Japanese Federated Church and Reverend S. Macon Cowles, pastor of the Holladay Community Church. At the meeting, held in the Lion's Club building at 5695, South Highland Drive, there were 35 charter memhers received. From this group, a board of six Elders was elected. Those selected were Mrs. Lawrence Schultz, Mrs. Fred Astroth, Mr. Franklin Fericks, Mr. Andrew Fairbairn, Mr. Sam Ber-ry and Mr. Keith Bentley. On the Unified Board, three of these men were selected as new trustees, Mr. Fericks, Mr. Berry and Mr. Bentley. Driefs Among those cheering for BYU at the football game Saturday, were Mr. and Mrs. I. H. Beeley, Senator and Mrs. Glen Hatch from Heber, and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Whipple. Afttr the game, the group gathered at the Capri and enjoyed pizza. Mr. and Mrs. Paul J. Sim-mons, are parents of a baby girl born Oct. 8. The little miss has been named Annette and was welcomed by big brother, Steven. Following the organization serv-ices, Holy Communion was com-memorated, under the leadership of Dr. Christiansen. After the com-munion services, a time of fel-lowship was observed. The completion of this organiza-tion marks a goal reached by er-ne- st workers, who first began their services on January 8, 1957 and who have worked toward the ulti-mate of a church of their own. Toward this end, a plot of ground has been purchased on Vine St., and it will be on this that the first unit of the new church will be erected at an early date. |
