In each Jeep sat a driver anxious to test his or her skills and vehicle on a century-olpioneer trail. Sponsored by Jeep, The Searchers of Cortez, and the San Juan d County Economic Development Council, thfe first Jeep Jamboree was on its way. Coming from 10 states, participants registered during the day on April 7. That evening, they ate Navajo tacos prepared by the Nations of the Four Camp was set up at the begin-inof the wagon dugway at the g bottom of Grey Mesa. Second night out was spent at Lake Canyon where the Connally Sisters of Cortez provided music and entertainment. The Lions clubs of Blanding and Monticello did the cooking at both campsites. Channel 5 television of Salt Lake City sent a vehicle with the group to provide on the scene footage of the trip. To cope with vehicle failure, Jeep Jamboree brought a wrecker, a Jeep mechanic, and spare parts. One of the requirements for participating was a Jeep. Blanding Elementary hosts puppeteer Students at Blanding Elementary School will create their own puppet theater production under the guidance of puppeteer Audrey Hagen during a cooperative effort between the school and the Utah Arts Council. The Council, a state agency, provides partial fee support for the residency residency.
