Show WILL START ERECTION OF NEW PLAYHOUSE "Work will commence within a week or ten days on the building of the new Pantages theater, according to . an announcement an-nouncement made yesterday by Frank P.. Newman, local manager for Alexander Pantages, owner of the vaudeville circuit cir-cuit which bears his name. It is planned ' to have the ground-breaking for the structure accompanied ' by a ceremony at which Mayor Ferry will officiate by throwing the first shovelful of dirt, to the accompaniment of a band dispensing lively music. A troupe of performers will also be present to furnish entertainment, entertain-ment, for which reason the work will await the lifting of the influenza ban. The new showhouse. which will be located lo-cated at llfi and 148 South Main street, will cost J250.000, .it Is said. Steel, reinforced rein-forced concrete and brick will constitute the principal materials to be used. The excavation will be in charge of P. J. Mnran, contractor, and is expected to require thirty days. The main building build-ing will be eighty feet in height and will be reached from the Main street side through a lobby 120 feet long. The front and entrance is to be nf highly j ornamental terra cotta in artistic de- sign. |
