Show THE OHIO REPUBLICANS The Republicans of Ohio exhibited tin admirable spirit of enthusiasm and harmony In their convention yesterday If there ever have been any serious differences dif-ferences under contemplation these utterly ut-terly failed to materialize and all wnJ perfect In fellowship and congratulations congratula-tions And the mighty work of the Republican party affords basis enough for the rallying of all shades of opinion to the common standard of patriotism and economic prosperity Tho administration of President Roosevelt was vigorously approved anti he was indorsed for the Presidential nomination next year amid stirring I scejies of acclaim The Congressional delegation wan Indorsed both In Senate and House with an especial approval for Senator Hnnna ns Senator Foraker said It was Hanna day and it is Hannn year this year in Ohio The State administration ad-ministration was commended and there was not a flaw in the flow of parly pride In both principles and menThe men-The platform Is strong In approval of the policy of protection the Republican policy which has made the United States the greatest Industrial nation In the world To it the country owes the phenomenal prosperity It now enjoys and which sprang up ns If I by magic on the accession of tho Republican party to power In 1897 The policy pursued In the Philippines was fervently applauded with nn admiring ad-miring nolo4of pride In the great Ohioan Ohio-an who Is the model exchief executive there the universally popular and confided con-fided in Governor Taft Under the prestige of Republican control of the foreign relations of the country the United States has become the peacemaker of the world the Monroe Mon-roe doctrine js now a vital force greater than ever before As Americas part In the preservation of tho ptAce of tho world there Is a splendid endorsement of the Republican policy of developing the navy to the highest state of efficiency effi-ciency and also to the development of the American merchant marine which may fairly be considered an endorsement endorse-ment of the ship subsidy bill a measure meas-ure that would do for the American merchant marine what the Dlngley tariff bill did for the revival and vitalizing vital-izing of the Industries and trade of this counti yOn y-On the trusts combinations and monopoly questions the platform Is justly explicit on the excellent effects of the Republican antitrust laws which are the only laws to curb I monopoly and injurious trade transportation trans-portation and financial combinations ever enacted in this country If farther far-ther legislation along thin line should ever be deemed essential it Is very properly pointed out that the Republican Republi-can party Is the only party that can bo looked to to put It on the statute books In such form as will at once be sum clontly strong and also preservative of vested Interests An admirable feature of the platform IB Its declaration with respect to the reduction of suffrage which has been enforced In most of the Southern States It declares In effect that wherever the negroes arc denied the right of suffrage they should not be counted in the enumeration for Representatives In Congress This Is an emphatic declaration declara-tion on the right side of the principle involved Whore the whites rob the negroes of their political rights it Is outrageous to reward them with additional addi-tional representation because they dot do-t The Ohio Republicans arc the first wo believe to make this emphatic declaration dec-laration which Is in direct conformity to the Constitution of the United States and to equal and exact Justice See Fourteenth amendment We look to see this become a burning ques I tion before the country I The Ohio Republicans have thus I proved true to themselves and to their I Tellow Republicans throughout the country Their united front and emphatic em-phatic declarations fitly prepare the way for the great Presidential campaign icxt year |
