Show v DENT PROPOSES i , MILITARY MEASURE V . WASHINGTON. Aug. 28. A new army reorganization bill without any provisions for universal military training was introduced intro-duced in the house today by Representa- t live Dent, Alabama, former chairman of flie militHry affairs committee. - The bill has a provision for the ap- ' ;pointment of a national guard -officer of ;r .rank not lower than that of colonel as chief of the militia bureau. Mr. Dent - 'said he believed such an appointment by 'the president, with confirmation by the senate, would establish a more bar mo -;r!ous relation between the war depart - ment and tho national guard of the '-' states. ; The bill raises the strength of tho army from 175.000 to 25o,0'M) and provides for sixteen infantry divisions and one of . cavalry. Sixty-five regiments of infan-; infan-; try are provided as in the present act, but the infantry is increased by the addition , ; ,of forty-eicht machine gun battalions. Field artillery regiments are increased -. j 'from twenty-one to forty-eight. The V. number of units of cavalry and coast ar- Cillery is the same. |
