Show THE AMERICAN PEOPLES PEOPLED VERDICT the great american public has spoken and the republican party is returned to power the democratic party from which so much was expected has ingloriously failed in its eight years of stewardship to handle the ship of state to the satisfaction of an overwhelming majority and has therefore been cast into the discard the things which it ought to have done and which it left undone and the things which it left undone that it ought to have done are of no moment now that these things have outweighed every accomplishment for which the democratic party may or can take credit was emphatically pronounced in the storm of ballots which swept the party off its feet but this is not all that the verdict means in this country it means that the people do not want and that they will not stand for any temporizing with the lawless unpatriotic and un american elements in this country which have taken advantage of their opportunities through ill conceived ideas of what constitutes political freedom and personal rights to create a sentiment of revolt to constituted authority and loyal citizenship the verdict serves notice on these parasites of society that there is no room in this country for the anarchist the nor the element which would curb and hold in check the activities of individual enterprise ter prise in those with brains enough and determination enough to go ahead and accomplish com something for themselves for respectable spec table society and for their country the verdict of the american people as expressed by their ballots on election day means that every man will have to stand on his merits and progress stand still or retreat according to his willingness to take off his coat and hustle it was the temper of the american people which spoke on election day it was the voice of the millions who had tired of industrial du bickering and strife it was the voice of the mother who wanted her husband son and daughter to be rescued from the maelstrom of wickedness and discontent that had resulted from idleness strikes es and the atmosphere of arrogated authority into which they had been plunged it was not so much a question of electing to office certain american citizens as it was a demand for a change from the unbearable conditions that have been constantly growing m more ore unbearable for a number of years past it was the voice of right thinking people who believe that every man and woman has an inalienable right to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness and contentment under the laws of the land that vo voice ice of the people has been registered it now is up to those who have been in trusted with the conduct of the count rys affairs to see to it that the trust in THEM has not been misplaced |
