Show MEN EMPLOYED IN UTAH MINES A summary of reports to the industrial commission of utah compiled in the office of carl A allen alien state inspector of mines and district engineer of the united states bureau of mines shows that in all the mines of utah outside of coal mines and quarries there was an average of men employed in 1919 and that they worked an average of days this compared with in 1918 and in 1917 the decreases in the forces corresponding with decreases in production during the three year period the underground workers in 1919 numbered those in open pit workings and those on the surface in addition to the above there were 1382 men employed in ore dressing plants mills in 1919 compared with 1942 in 1918 and in 1917 smelting smelling Sm elting plants in 1919 employed an average of 1832 men in 1918 and in 1917 2658 auxiliary works last year employed an average of men the year before 1885 and the preceding year 1811 this makes the total of men employed in mining and treating ores in utah in 1919 as compared with in 1918 and in 1917 casualty lists for men working in mines had not been completed yesterday the mills reported one man killed in 1919 as against two in 1918 and five in 1917 smelt ing plants reported three killed hilled and injured in 1919 four killed and injured in 1918 and nine killed and injured in 1917 while in auxiliary plants eighty were injured in 1919 in 1918 andlous and four were killed and injured in 1917 |
