Show FOUNDER OF UTAH STEEL CORP DIES IN SAN FRANCISCO HOME all of industrial utah was shocked when dispatches from san francisco on the ath instant told of the rathe sudden death of wig T ington E creed president of the pacific gas electric company and one of the most widely known business men of the coast states he was only fifty years of age ag e he was born in fresno calif in 1877 he attended the university of california studied law and began his career practicing law then he turned his attention to business and became rapidly successful mr creed was widely known throughout utah and had many warm personal friends among the bankers and business men of salt lake his last visit here was in june where he delivered an address at the convention of the utah bankers association on june 11 in which he struck a stimulating note of optimism in an interview for the salt lake tribune at that time he expressed his strong belief in the future greater progress in store for this state saying utah has a marvelous future he added that he and his associates had proved their faith in utah by making large investments here notably in the construction of the columbia steel plant at provo this utah industry under able management progressed so rapidly that extension of the plant became necessary recently this work is under way and it is said will call for the expenditure pend iture of more than among mr creeds close business associates here was leon F rains president of the carbon fuel company who is vice president of the columbia steel company he also was on terms of friendship with W W armstrong E 0 howar howard d and many others in salt lake and elsewhere in utah |
