Show PARK CITY SPECIAL MAP charles D walcott director of the U S geological survey in his press bulletin says A special map has just been published by the united states geological survey of the mining district about park city summit county utah which is situated about thirty miles southeast of salt lake city near the summit of the wasatch range this camp has been in active operation for more than thirty years but of late several rich discoveries have stimulated simulated operations and made the region a center of interest among mining men the area mapped which I 1 is approximately 5 by 7 miles includes all mines of importance about park city in addition to the working mines many prospect holes shafts and tunnels are shown all of use to the geologist this map was made in 1901 and 1902 on a scale of two and a half inches to one mile approximately all roads trans trails gs hoists and prospects are shown th tho contour int interval erval is fifty feet which adequately adequate represents all topographic features in de delai tail 1 in addition to the sur survey v ey for the map a tria tri ono metric survey of specific accuracy W a made to determine the exact position tion in w at etude and longitude of the principal mine shafts the country is bold featured and moun ta inous the map including inc ludig a range of elevations from feet at the provo river to at clayton peak a great granite crest of the wasatch mountains somewhat north of this peak runs a spur toward the northeast dividing the area about equally giving givin rise to many deep canyons and gulches toward the northeast and south in which for the most part the mines of greatest im importance port are situated in an area where th there ere i is so great a range of elevation and where the topography is so broken and ana varied a map civi giving ng not only the elevation at any point but the form of the country in detail will be of the highest value to operators and prospectors at the center of this area are a number dumber of rich placer mines occupying an area of four square miles which had to be mapped on a scale yet larger than the main area in order to show all minute geological details this map will appear later as the silver king special |
