Show LONGEST TRAMWAY IN THE WORLD in the last issue of the mining review reference was made editorially to the uses and value of the aerial tramway since t then en we have seen an account of the starting up of the great tramway at grand encampment c camp amp ment wyo owned by the southern wyoming tramway company the equipment for which was furnished by the A leschen sons rope company of st louis mo the putting of this gigantic line of aerial transportation into commission is such an important occurrence in the mining and industrial du world that the mining review takes pleasure in reproducing an account of this event from the columns of the grand encampment herald of the ath dinst viz at high noon tuesday june 9 1903 the first bucket of ore carried over the aerial tramway was dumped into a bin at the big terminal at the north american copper companas comp anys reduction works in grand encampment camp ment the arrival of the bucket and its progress through the town limits en route from the ferris haggarty mine was accompanied by the booming of giant powder the waving of flags hats and handkerchiefs and wild enthusiasm prevailed among a large crowd of interested people who had waited and watched for many minutes to witness the greatest event in the history of the state of wyoming the successful landing of ore over the longest aerial tramway in the world the first to be built off a railroad the first in wyoming the greatest on the face of the great green earth the first bucket was adorned with the american flag and nearly all the ore it contained was carried away as souvenirs of the long looked for event |
