Show THUNDER MOUNTAIN AND OTHER CAMPS capital news boise idaho D H mosley returned last evening from an extended trip to thunder mountain and other mining districts in central idaho he left here sept 9 for roosevelt where he was joined a few days later by colonel R W purdum of nampa and professor krues 0 of f chicago they spent some time at the sunnyside Sunny side dewey and other mines in that di district from there they proceeded down rush creek to the salmon and from there over to the yellow jacket then on to challis and mackay they used pack animals from roosevelt to forney and then continued their journey by wagon to mackay where they took a train for home mr mosely reached here last night in talking about his trip this morning to the capital news reporter mr mosley said they had a most delightful time and obtained much valuable information of use in future operations it was his first visit to thunder mountain and the other sections visited and he was simply astonished at the opportunities afforded for investment in the districts visited he says it is claimed there are men now working in thunder mountain on the various properties the party was shown through the dewey and sunnyside Sunny side mines mr mosley says the half has not yet been told of the wealth in those properties A five stamp mill is now working in the dewey and he says the returns are better than were ever claimed they would be but he declined to give out any definite information saying that he obtained his information while a guest of the management he says that the sunnyside Sunny side has not been overestimated over estimated and the big stories sent out from there are no exaggeration of the truth the force now at work on the property is to be greatly increased increase dat at once to work all winter the trip from roosevelt creek to the salmon through the yellow jacket country and on to forney he describes as being perfectly enchanting to those who love a rugged journey and outdoor life with a pack outfit opal mining he was considerably impressed with the prospects around forney where considerable work is being done A company of eastern people has recently been formed for operating the opal beds in that vicinity at present the company is devoting its attention to the bed on panther creek about three miles above forney they have erected neat and common dious cabins for the men and have constructed a large reservoir for storing water for power purposes machinery has been ordered for an electric power plant to operate the machinery for cutting and dressing the opals it is the intention of the company to polish the stones at the mine ready for the market the opal mines of leahl lemhi county have been previously described in the capital cao t news an especially good article having been printed from the pen of state mine inspector bell they are of a splendid ity and the mines apparently inexhaustible mr mosley says that the ramey mine located four miles from forney was re ported to be opening up well fred davis well known in boise he says has a good property near the same place lie he says it is not a large ledge but is of a very high grade assays essays showing values from 60 to smelter at mackay the party spent some time at mac mackay kay and were shown all through the new smelter mr fearne informed them the smelter would be started up next monday mr mosley says it has a capacity of tons tolls per day and is complete in every detail it is a magnificent smelter said he and is complete throughout the machine shop blacksmith shop cabins mess house everything seems to have been constructed with the highest ideal of obtaining the greatest comfort for the men and obtaining the greatest results an electric tramway hasteen has been constructed from the smelter to the white knob mine a distance of four miles which conveys the ore direct from the mine to the smelter there are about men in the camp according to mr fosley and it is next to impossible to get accommodations unless spoken for in advance the shaft on the white knob is now down about feet and assays essays made from ore taken at that depth shows high values the new york parties interested in the property visited the mine the day he left for the purpose of looking it over he was invited to join them on the trip of inspection but the serious illness of his young son made it necessary for him to decline and return home he says kid huntington formerly of boise is deputy sheriff and constable there 0 |
