Show GOLD DISCOVERY IN UINTAH CO A vernal correspondent of the daily herald says R C camp who is heavily interested in a mining way in the red creek and jesse ewing districts came in from a trip to that section last night and brings the report of a new find west of jesse ewing canyon that bids fair to be of some importance the find consists of a vein of gold and copper bearing ore that carries good values if indications go for anything and which shows every evidence of permanency considerable interest has centered in red creek this season by reason of the discovery of vanadium there last fall and winter all doubts have been set at rest regarding the character of the mineral through tests having been made by experts of the highest standing all over the country professor talmage who is credited with having first detected the existence of the mineral is taking a lively interest in the district and was expected here in a few days on business in connection with the development of the district but word was received from him last night that he would be delayed because of having to appear in a mining case in the courts at salt lake the gilson asphaltum company has ha haa considerable trouble lately to keep up with the demand for gilsonite owing to the occurrence of a fault in the vein at the mine near ft Dues chesne which necessitated no little dead work and materially lessened the daily output of ore the matter is fast being remedied however and it is thought that shipments will show a material iacre from now on R S collett who is oneff the owners of the bromide mine on douglass douglas moun momi tain left fora yesterday trip over totham to that property which has been idle for some gorae time the camp was the scene of considerable activity a few years ago and a twenty ton toil smelter was erected to handle the ore ora of the district but owing to the cost of transporting coke and supplies from the railroad miles away it was found that no margin was left with which to pay divi bends an eastern outfit is interested with local mining men in the mine and smelter and it is rumored that a deal is on bychich by which the property may change hands lil in the near future the proposition is believed to have merit if handled properly the ore la is copper bearing and of a very good grade though hard to treat but the application of money and mining knowledge can no doubt work wonders in the camp J T farr a mining expert from zion came in on last nights stage and left this morning in company with E W da davis vis to look over the big low grade gold veins of mt baldy thirty five miles northwest of vernal |
