The vote of Waterbury, Vernon, and two or, three utlier towns, will give some Democratic gains. It looks a. if Jewell was elected by the people. The messenger of the Citizens bank was robbed to-day, -f a pocket-book containing $'37,000. The robbery was effected by exchanging exchang-ing books while the messenger was in the bank. No arrests. Commodore Case, chief of the ordinance ordi-nance bureau, testilied relative to the contracts for the construction of engines for two torpedo boats with a lirm in New York. He admitted the engines had not b,.-en advertised for, and said he ruled that the law did not apply to tho ordinance ordi-nance bureau, and in the case of these torpedo boats he didn"t want the public to know anything about their building. Seranton, Pa., 1. There was a terrible accident ill Carbondule tliis afternoon. Tho tn-sllu work of a coal breaker 100 feet hi.nb, was blown down by a furious gale, conveying with it a number of men and boys a work on it. Two men and a boy were fatally injured. The ruins caught lire almost at once, from some cause, and th breaker was saved with the greatest ditliculty. It is believed hut not known that several boys were burned to death.
