A dispatch from Hartford, at two o'clock this morning, says English has sixteen majority, with the possibility of forty more if Stamford gave Jewell 104 instead of 144 as reported. It is probable there will be a failure to elect by the people. The Senate will have a Republican majority, and the House about fifteen of a Republican majority. Strong, Republican, for Congress has 343 majority; ma-jority; Kellogg, Republican, 49; Starkweather, Stark-weather, Republican, about 1,600; and Barnum, Democrat, 9QQ. It is now agreed that no recommendation, or expression of opinion whatever, will be made. It has been put in type and slips have been printed. Democratic Victory in St. Ijouls. St. Louis, 5. At the city election yesterday the Democrats elected theii entire ticket by majorities ranging from 1,375 to 3,000. Of the twelve alderman elected ten are Democrats. The total vote was 20,000 out of a total registration of 28,000. The Democrat attributes the defeat of the Republicans Republi-cans to the apathy of the Germans, many of whom did not vote. There are slight discrepancies in the votes of two or three towns, but giving English Eng-lish the benefit of all doubts, he cannot can-not have more than fifteen or twenty of a plurality, and thero are scattering votes enough to overcome that, and send the election to the Legislature. There is an alleged mistake of twenty-! twenty-! four in the count of the electors, j which, if corrected, will, on our fig-! fig-! ures, put Jewell nineteen ahead.
