convey the canvassed returns re-turns and constitution of the prospective prospec-tive state of Utah to President Cleveland Cleve-land who will then be expected to issue his proclamation declaring the terrtor a fullfledged state Commissioner Commis-sioner Shearman will start for the capital cap-ital today and Commissioner Letcher will follow on Monday or Tuesday The mission of the commissioners to Washington will have some other significance than the mere placing of the constitution and election returns in the hands of the president They will seek to ascertain what disposition disposi-tion is to be made of the government property now in the hands of the commission com-mission and will receive general instructions in-structions relative to the winding up of the affairs of the Utah Commission 0 which when statehood comes will pats out iistence The two delegates are also charged I with the mission of urging a spaedy apfTOiiiation to meet the deficiency in the amount set apart for the tx penses of the late election Another Contest J F Bringhurst Rep left a notice of contest of election for the position of member of the house of represents tives from Utah county In the 5 ate legislature claiming that there is a miscount in the precincts of American Fork Lehi polls 1 and 2 Springville and Springlake which miscount gives the election to Hyrum Lemmon Dem The municipal canvass yesterday revealed re-vealed the fact that there was not atE a-tE between the candidate for mayor of MentIon as shown on the first count made by the canvassing boards I now develops that the Democratic candidates can-didates were all elected on a safe margin The Wellsville vote was extremely ex-tremely close and the canvass shows a number of ties The result of the work done by the board of canvassers yesterday is given below Comissioiier Sorrel Slid Tmlprc Zane Judge Zane dropped into the Utah Commission yesterday for the purpose of registering a kick because It appeared ap-peared from the returns as published in the papers yesterday that Tudge Bartch had polled more votes than Judge Zane I was explained that the i returns had not been checked and that Ian I-an insignificant error not in any way affecting the results had been made but was discovered before the returns were certified to and the correction made from which it appeared that Judge Zane had polled two more votes than Judge Bartch They were of course both elected but it was a ques tion of honor with Judge Zane and he sought out Commissioner Norrell and a very warm interview ensued Judge Zane it is claimed charged that the commissioners had purposely made it appear that Judge PUrosely had run ahead of Judge Zane This was emphatically resented by Commissioner Commission-er Norrell and for a few minutes the situation was decidedly interesting Wayne Comity i git t I t 1 r g Superintendent of Schools g t = 1 o I Burgess 27 1 CalneyiUe 271 Dale Fremoat is 9 2 Grover 14 Hanksvile 11 1 Loa G 45
