Cir-cles For the Winters WorkS Work-S The week just closed was a good one r with the fraternal orders generally The summer season is now drawing to a close and the orders are making pre carations for the fall and winter camS cam-S jjalcns 7 Masonic The recess is now over and work begins be-gins in earnest this week Argenta t lodce will meet on Tuesday evening in t regular convocation The Chapter will t meet on Wednesday evening and the Co Commanderv on Thursday evening Mount Moriah lodge will hold its 0 first meeting of the season oa this night week the Shrine on Wednesday e week and Wasatch lodge on Friday week The season promises to be a good one for the order which is making rapid strides In jurisdiction f The funeral of brother Fred GeorgeS George-S Ciroll Heisen of Mount Morlah lodge was held yesterday afternoon at Mount r Olivet cemetery The ceremonies were is conducted under the auspices of the i lodge and quite a large delegation of the fraternity were present r At the request of the friends of the deceased In Chicago und in Germany the remains were temporarily placed in the Masonic vault at the cemetery and It is understood that the undertaker under-taker is to ship the body to GermanyS S the native land of the deceased I LOOF The lodges of this order all held their usual meetings durIng the week 50 Considerable degree work was done and maters of general interest to the > order were advanced The attendances at all the meetings S were very satisfactory and quite a number of applications to join were < 0 received and dealt with in the usual c manner The latest number ot the Utah Odd Fellow the official organ of the order in this Jurisdiction Is a specially good one and treats of matters of general f interest to all Odd Fellows In reference refer-ence to the approaching session of < the Sovereign Grand lodge it la the S following Several matters of special interest will have to be acted on at the com Irg session of the Sovereign Grand lodge which assembles at Chattanooga T S Tenn on September 17 r The Fargo fraud will come up and f be thoroughly ventilated as it needs toe > to-e for as Brother Kidder justly says Thus i seems that a great fraud has r been perperated on the great order to meet the cupidity of menwe hardly dare insult our readers by calling themE them-E brothers who seem lost to all sense of t decency and who have utterly ignored the grand principles of Odd Fellowships s The pretext for generous contributions from the fraternity was itself largely a falsehood and the methods of securing princely gifts from noble men are absolutely M ab-solutely a cheat and a fraud We have I little patience with men who thus S swindle their brothers for personal 7 ends The relation of dues to benefits I will aIM receive attention Whether we shall shed the collar and c put on a badge in the lodge room will also come in for more or less discussion ll i and the arguments are likely to wax pretty warm before the matter is set I tied definitely The action of the Grand Lodge of I f Kansas in suspending so many lodges for refusing to pay the assessment for the payment of the debt on the DeS De-S 0 Boinseure O F Home is likely to come 3 up Fortunately the Grand representatives r s0 representa-tives from this jurisdiction are men of r unusual ability and will vote as they should on these important matters We believe that those suboidinate r Hodges who have solicited funds inS in-S other jurisdictions without the sanction t of tho grand master of the several L jurisdictions houd be hauled over the coals and handled without gloves and severe penalties should be dealt upon those who have thus trodden down the explicit law on the subject I We are no prophet but we think we can safely predict that the 1895 session will be held in Washington D C Knights of Pythias I There was little of Interest to the S public In local Pythian circles last week The lodges held their usual meetings and being the last meeting meetngs for the month there was no degreeS degree-S r work but nevertheless the atten dancees were good and the sessions very interesting S The great event in this order was the meeting of Supreme lodge at Washington Wash-ington D C S The Washington Post issued a special edition of the paper called the Pythian 5 edition which is a most exhaustive and < elaborate treatise on the order and a i detailed account of the proceedings of I the present gathering I is profusely L i illustrated and gotten up in the best style The opening sentences of the article are as follows t It was a day of triumph in Washington Washing-ton I The Pythian host as it retired In i the shadows of evening to its tented s city at the base of the worlds grandest i0 i monument to a nations hero might well have said as did Caesar I came J saw I conquered Welcomed the night before with open arms by the citizens cit-izens of the national capital while yet I strangers today In their cull strength and glory they have by their knightly well worthy 0 bearing shown themselves wel i of our hospitality For two long hours the beautiful I avenue from the treasury building tote < avcnue the imposing capitol with its lofty dome resounded to the tread of marching I march-ing feet the sharp clatter of ironshod hoofs and the music of a score or moreS more-S of selected bands from as many states r of the union I was a noble gathering Twelve housand knights in line marching and countermarching on the broad avenue S aven-ue at the birthplace of their order reviewed o re-viewed by the president of the United States and witnessed by 150000 people marks an era in Pythian history that I 0 can never be effaced and which it is cn S probable will stand alone for many periods yet to come One result is plainly to be foreseen General Carna S han spoke the words of a prophet when S lie said that to the uniform rank was t due in a very great measure the remarkable 0 re-markable prosperity of the order during S the past few years The mobilization of brigades and divisions from north south east and west in Washington has brought the eyes of the whole nation na-tion upon the Pythian order and i L cannot fail to give a new impetus to its growth It gowth The following is the account given S S by the Post of the way Utah was represented rep-resented A fine cut of Grand Chancellor S Chan-cellor Wiscomb
