Show THE ELECTION. On Monday next the Annual Territorial Terri-torial election will be held, at which :very person entitled to vote sheuld do so. It is a right, a privilege and a duty which all- owe to themselves, to thoir posterity and their country. The franchise is a sacred investiture; the ballot is an all-powerful check upon aspiring as-piring demagogues and ambitious politicians, poli-ticians, aud should be ever so regarded by a free and sovereign people. No person has a right to vote unless an American bom citiien, or a naturalized citizen having the proper legal papers regularly issued. In this Territory, woman has the franchise as well as man ; but she, too, is subject to conditions of citizenship ; and any one who has doubts as to his or her citizenship should seek certain information on the subject from competent com-petent legal authority. No person should attempt to vote, man or woman, unless possessing a clear legal right to do so. Let it be understood that waiving the question of naturalization papers granted by other than' the District Courts, and also waiving the Question whether an alien woman becomes an American citizen by marriage with an American male citizen EVERY AMERICAN BORN MAN AND WOMAN OVER TWENTY-ONE YEARS OF AGE, who is not disqualified dis-qualified by a forfeiture of political rights ; and EVERY PERSON OF FOREIGN BIRTH, NATURALIZED NATURALI-ZED ACCORDING TO THE LAWS OF THE UNTTED STATES, is entitled enti-tled to vote ; but all voters here must comply with the laws regulating elections elec-tions in this Territory. We enjoin upon all those who are thus legally entitled to exercise the franchise, men and women, to step up to the polls od Monday and record their votes for the candidate of their choice, fearless and unbiased, as independent men and women, freely and fully discharging dis-charging their duty as enlightened citizens. |
