Show BREEDING DISCONTENT On the authority of a gentleman writing writ-ing from North Carolina the Baltimoro Sun says That emissaries from tho North are at work among the colored people creating discontent and race antipathies an-tipathies in the hope that benefit will result therefrom to tho Republican party There are several interests to be promoted by such a propaganda Senator Sena-tor Sherman and Mr Blaine rely largely upon an outcry of discontent from tho colored voters of the South for an issue in tho next Presidential election and they are embarrassed by the circumstance circum-stance that at present there is no discontent discon-tent and no outcry But they can be manufactured and the work is now to be taken in hand If the colored man were to vote the Republican ticket it is argued he would somehow vote himself higher wages which would impair the power of the South to make cheap iron and cotton cloth and would thus snstain I wages in Pennsylvania and Massachusetts Massachu-setts The Northern workman is ruined according to Mr Blaine by colored cheap labor The theory is ingenious though baseless and we may count on the emissaries in North Carolina and elsewhere producing in duo time in the New York Tribune bloodcurdling accounts ac-counts of the low wages and poverty of the colored employeeof the South |
