Show DON 13 COLTON APPOINTED pursuant to chapter 50 of the laws of utah 1915 governor spry has named a commission whose duty it will be to investigate thoroughly the question of working mens compensation and employers liability legislation and make a report with recommendations ions for a utah statute to the next legislature which will convene in january 1917 A member of the senate a meni member of the house of representatives two representatives of em employers and two representatives of labor constitute coniti constitute tute the the membership of the commission don B colton state senator from vernal is the member from the upper house of the legislature ira B browning of bistle e dale emery county will represent the lower house on the cord commission to represent the interests of employers the governor has named R C Gern gemmell mell jeri general manager of the utah cop per company and H B windsor president of windsor co a local firm dealing extensively in all kinds of insurance henry K russell secretary of the labor federation and candidate for city commission at the last election and charles H pearson of ogden also prominent among labor organizations are re representatives of employees le grand young is named as the attorney for the commission A sua not to exceed was appropriated by the last legislature to cover the expenses of this commission in collecting data on working mens compensation acts it is also provided in the law that the state commissioner of immigration labor and statistics H T haines is to operate cooperate co with the commission sion in securing the necessary information the law provides that the commission shall organize by the election of a chairman and a secretary and abd shall submit a full wa port of its work and bindi findings ings to the members and the members elect of the next legislature at least sixty days before its next regular i cession and shall include therein its tor for legislation together with much hsuch bill or bills providing tor vor a speedy remedy forien lorees for injuries received in the course of their employment as will be fair fail just and reasonable both to employers and employees the matter of a working mens meWs compensation act for utah was vas taken up at the last legislature bills on the subject were in introduced trod including an extensive bill presented by state senator D 0 rideout of draper hearings were held in committee ind and the matter thoroughly discussed it developed however that there was a wide difference of opinion regarding what such a law for utah should be peculiar conditions exist here some contended that made laws from most other states inapplicable to 1 this state in the end it was finally decided that a commission should be appointed representing all parties interested and that this commission should study the subject the result was the passage of the law providing for the commission to investigate vesti gate working mens compensation and employers liability and report to the next legis legislature 1 a |
